Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Im running 40 at the front, 39 rears.

Theres something that's been bothering me. There is some serious heat coming through the firewall. I reckon at times when it was warm that i was a lamb roast in an oven.

Seriously, has anyone else noticed this? Probably wouldn't need a heater in winter.

I'd like to get a heat shield, or a turbo blanket/exhaust wrap combo.

Looking to do the folding mirror thing soon also.

Wow what the hell... My front were close to 30 and I had the tyre sensor go off.

I upped them all to 34-ish and thought that was an improvement.

Mind you it was just a dodgy petrol station sensor... Will have to look into this...

      • Anyone know how you could possibly find out what build number your 40th is?

If 500 were only shipped to AUS how could I find out what number mine is?

This is regardless of whether it actually bypasses the overboost or not for which I'll speak with George anyway.

Well with a few connections I managed to find out. Could try ringing VWA.

                        • Hi guys,

Its time for me to mod the car and wondering how easy to mod with JB4?
Since its a 40th GTI, do we need a special file to be uploaded before plug in to the car?

Can anyone help me with the questions above?

Also does anyone encountered any issues below as I need to send my car back for warranty service:
                          1. Faulty left headlight washer.. (stucked and nozzle refused to come out)
                          2. Steering wheel, bottom left had a fifty cents size bubble on the alcantara wrap.

                          Thank you

                          • Was driving back home on Sunday after playing. Saw a red 40Y VW40YR rolling from Ingleburn towards Campbelltown. Could tell it was a DSG running in sport mode with the gear changes.

I like the red, but as I said with the white it's just too out there.

I'm up for my yearly service.

Did anyone get a recall letter also about the tyre placard?

Yes, although I haven't got around to bringing it back to the stealer yet. I'm booked in for a service in two weeks, although at an independent. Does anyone know what the correct setup is, so that I can check against what is on the fuel cap.

                              • A quick question to you 40y owners how are the 340mm brakes in comparison to the 312mm on the reg gti?

Is it a big difference or not really noticeable?

I want to upgrade to the 340mm brakes but the cost is not cheap and if no real difference may just be better to stay stock
