Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

I know that feeling. Been spending my time reading up on the mods possible with OBDEleven.

Has anyone had any luck fitting the Dynamic taillights to a 7.5 GTI? Thinking about just getting the dealer to fit. (If they can/will)

I've had them fitted on my MK7. All the dealers I contacted wouldn't have a bar of it.

Ended up going with Volkstech, who are ex-VW mechanics & know what they're doing; They did this + LED rego lights & dynamic mirror indicators in the one day.

When I picked it up, the dealer asked one of his techs and they said it should be doable as the Euro MK7.5 comes with it. They said they'd do it but would be cheaper if I went online. :/

I'm on Mid North Coast NSW so Volkstech is a bit far. Did they supply and fit or did you source the parts yourself?

          Supplied & fitted.

Do you need whole new light fittings or just the controller for the Sweep? If it's just the controller then it shouldn't take too long nor cost heaps?

It'd pay to compare pricing to your local third party installer though as dealers are more expensive.

Would've thought there was a place near you....have you checked the retailer sections on here?

          • I've reached out to a few VW guys in Coffs to see if it's something they can help with. I'll need the full tail lights from the looks of it. It has LED tail lights, but not lights that support the sweep.

I'm pretty new to VW/Golf so I'm still learning and reading threads. The plan is to fit the sweeping indicators and dynablink mirrors.

Just a warning with the Dynablink mirrors - they're hardly visible in daylight. They're fine at dawn, dusk & night, but because they're covered in a tinted plastic, the vibrancy of the LEDs are muted in sunlight....dumb decision on Dynablinks part...

              • So after sending a few emails out, I got a detailed response from the guys at VWCentral who said the Indicator swap isn't quite ready for the MK7.5 GTI. Still working on the coding to get the sweep to function as it should. Keen to see what they come up with.

                • Does anyone know why we didn't get the proper traffic jam assist mode in AU?

                  • Not all states allow it. Victoria for example doesn't allow it at this time. I'd love it when I head to the Gold Coast. Always congestion on the M1 around Palm Beach.

                    • Any indications on a good driveway deal for a GTI 7.5 with DSG no options? I see in QLD they are advertised at $45,490 driveway, any ideas on what discount would be achievable?

If you're committed to getting one, you should think about a new car broker. They'll usually include you in a group of VWs in the one group buy for some real bargaining power. You just don't get a choice of dealer. Try National Car Brokers, or Private Fleet, or similar.

                        • Hi guys,

I'm in the market for a GTI and have priced our a few dealers in my area. I've noticed that a couple of them are selling the MY17 7.5's a little cheaper than the My18 7.5's with the same paint and options.

Are there any differences at all between the different model years when we're talking the 7.5 series?

I've been unable to find any difinitive information indicating if there's been any small updates or not.

                          Thanks!

Sorry not able to answer your question but just wondering what you have been quoted and what extras if any you are getting?

Mate I've been through four local dealerships and have found the prices to be quite attractive once the sales reps were pushed a little. I've been in the market for two years.

I managed very easily to get quotes for a 7.5 series GTI with DAP for $39,000 from several places around Brisbane and the Sunshine Coast. I'm a very aggressive negotiator and I'm very confident I could get them down further, or have an extended warranty/additional packages added for the same price.

It's a good time to buy and given the stiff competition in coming in 2018, I personally have never felt in a stronger position as a buyer than now.

A number of hot hatches are around the corner and are strong enough contenders to make VAG consider being more flexible in their pricing. The i30 N in particular is a product forcing some sharper pricing from its more established competitors. It's like I said to the sales rep.. Don't sell me a Golf, sell me a Golf for the right price.

I will not settle for anything less than a manual GTI in Iridium with DAP and infotainment, with extended warranty. If they want my business they'll sell it to me for $40k.
A year ago I would have been crazy to chase those numbers, but now I don't think I'll have any trouble.

That config racks in at $53k with the extended warranty. If you can negotiate 25% off that price, you need to start a brokerage business.
