Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Air-con too cold!

I've got an 8-week old MY16 Comfortline with the dual-zone climate control.
I find I have to have the temp set to 2 degrees more than the outside temp otherwise it's too cold.
So, today it was 24 deg outside and I had to set it at 26...Is this normal?
It also seems to keep the fan at the speed one above lowest...which is often too strong.

With previous (non VW) car I would have it set around 22 and hardly needed to adjust it....

    Any comments welcome
    Ron

    1) man up

    2) busted thermostat possibly

I'd go with 2, but I generally just adjust the temperature until I am comfortable regardless of what it says on the temp gauge/HVAC. Good luck.

Press Setup button, open air conditioning settings and choose light, medium or strong blower output. Yours could be on strong.
I am assuming you are keeping it in Auto position.

            Air-con too cold!

Compared to a Mazda, VW aircon is crap. However, it's much better in a Mk6 than the Mk5 (even after I replaced the compressor in my Mk5).

MK6 and MK5 have almost identical HVAC setups.

Compared to a mid-'00s Mazda3, the OP's aircon would be like the Antarctic.

Yeah but there is a noticeable difference. I have both the cars right now so when I switch between them a few times each week I can tell the difference.

As for the Mazda comparison, I was relating to my 2010 CX-7.

But everything's the same? The compressor, the refigerant quantity, pretty much identical.

Maybe its time the MK5's aircon got a look-over?

Well maybe. It had a complete new compressor about 2 years ago. It's fine and works OK; I just think my Mk6 is better. Besides, I've sold it and my new Mk7 arrives on Friday!

I find exactly the same thing with mine. I usually have the inside temp set above what it says outside, and if I want to warm the car up I have to turn the air con off because it still cools even if I turn the temperature up to around 26.

In my previous Focus I just had it set to 22 all the time and hardly ever had to touch it.

                          Yes, that's my experience....
it's sounding like that's how the climate control works in the Golf 7.
                          Thanks

I've had mine set on 23 since I got it. Only changed it to 21 today as it was 37deg outside

Yes, that's how it should work!
