Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

Will be eager to find out when your delivery is! I hope mine is before or on the 7th of Feb, cause I've taken 1 week annual leave off work from the 7th to 14th of feb especially for this, haha.

Congrats Mr T! You are finally so close to having it! I don't know why, but the AID and bigger screen on the dash makes the mk 7 look so dated now! So in love with the R. Great car

Speed limits range from 40/50/60/70/80km per hour and can get to as low as 6.6l/100km but usually sits at 7.2...

                • I do a lot of highway driving and have covered 8000km since October 2017.
                  I have averaged 7.4l/100km.
The engine used 300ml of oil in the first 1000km, but has not use more than 50ml since.

                      Congrats!

You get yours faster than mine, did yours come through Port Kembla? I pick it up on Thursday.

Can someone point me to the thread or advise on best way to run the car in?

                        Copy and pasted from whirlpool:

My manual (edition 11.2017, applicable to Golf, GTI, GTD, and R) states:

Any new engine has to be run in during the first 1,500 kilometers. All moving parts need time to synchronise. The engine experiences higher internal friction during the first few hours of operation.

                        Up to 1,000 kilometers:
                        – Do not depress the accelerator fully.
                        – Do not drive the vehicle at more than 2/3 of the top engine speed.
                        – Do not drive with a trailer attached.

                        Between 1,000 and 1,500 kilometers:
                        – Increase speed and engine epeed gradually.

The style of driving during the first 1,500 kilometers will also affec the engine quality. Even after this time – and especially with a cold engine – drive the vehicle at moderate speeds in order t oreduce engine wear and to increase the mileage that the engine can cover.

Do not drive at engine speeds that are too low. Always shift down gear if the engine is not running smoothly.

New tyres and brake pads must be run in carefully.

If the engine is run in gently, its life will be increased and its oil consumption reduced.

                          • I have just taken delivery of a white Wolf with sunroof. 9/10... the Silver Pretoria’s look average! That’s where it loses a point. Would love to get them sprayed gloss black like my previous Taledegas. Wouldn’t know where to start. Any ideas on where?
