hey guys, I am getting the range of around 450km on full tank in my wagon! The car is about 4 weeks old and I am always in Race mode with D..plus air conditioning is on all the time to combat Melbourne heat..Is this what can I expect or it will improve over the time?

Assuming you ran the thing dry that would be 11 per 100 (working off of a 50 litre tank - maybe someone can confirm if it's 55 on the R). Seems bloody good to me but it's worth noting exactly how many litres you fill it with to really work it out.
It never ceases to amaze me how many people always quote how much mileage they get to a tank as some indicator of economy.
Way too many variables to analyse, but particularly as the Bigdog said - it depends how much you fuel really used for starters.
I can easily do 7s with A/C and passengers on a freeway, or well into double digits with hard driving or stop/start traffic.
I'd be more interested to know actually if anyone has tested the accuracy of the VW computer mileage - IIRC the Mk6 and earlier Mk7s were a touch optimistic when compared to actuals (but surely VW wouldn't do that? )

I hear you Dutch... I’ve always wanted to see a version of the Olympics where performance enhancing drugs are not only mandatory, but celebrated. In the same vein, I would like to see the fuel economy conversation flipped towards how quickly you can blow a tank. It won’t be long before everyone’s talking in Watts and Sunshine so I say let’s make the most of the good old days!
I think you're talk about the Chinese Olympic trials aren't you?
Agreed 100%. I think as far as road going vehicles go that title is still held by Chiron? Top Gear had estimated only about nine minutes at top speed to drain the 100 litre tank for 81km = 123l/100km. Although I'm being a bit harsh as economy isn't tested at full whack, it's official cycle is 26.1l/100km city and 16.8l/100km highway.
And good luck to the owner who is trying to match that instead of pottering about in a Prius, or worse a Tesla.
