Maybe Im a little late to the party but we decided that we wanted an R wagon recently. Called up a VW dealership to find out that I cannot even order one and VW Australia have no plans to bring them in again.
Anyone know if this is going to change in the future? I would have thought they would be a reasonably popular model.
Seems weird that they cant even order one if someone if willing to place and order and put down a deposit..

It wouldn't surprise me if VW were playing it safe now and concentrating on the 'bread and butter' models in light of the recent 'dieselgate' issues. I know there have been many dealerships unable to move existing stock.
On the flip side though it also may make sense to sell a high margin niche model as there would be an almost guaranteed market for them -- in low quantities.

hmm yeah I see what you are saying. Small quantities fair enough; get in line put your deposit down and wait. But to just say no we wont even order them seems kinda silly, especially if sales numbers are down..
Most people buying an R pretty much know they aint going to be getting much of a discount expecially when its being ordered specifically for them. So they could keep thier high margins and sell more cars if they were willing to place the orders.
Oh well I might wait a bit and see if anything develops and if not look at something else.
I think you're up for hunting around the country to see if there are any still left at the regional dealerships.
This was originally advertised as a special run. I think if the dealers put enough pressure on VWA then they may do a second run. Hopefully this time around without the carbon look leather...

Have a look on carsales.com.au, there's still a few for sale on there including one private seller. I also had a dealer in Sydney call me last week asking if I was still looking since they have one that financing fell through on.

Hopefully yes on both counts!
Auto tailgate would be nice too, the Octavia's got it!

Was looking at that too but it's double the price [emoji107]. DBA T3 and apparently out of stock till May unless you can find a supplier who has these stored.
No decent driving yesterday, and then just boring highway for the first 2 hours this morning.
Just finished the old pacific hwy (now called Wootton Way) north of Buladelah - forest twisties, deserted apart from me heading & a few bikes heading north - heaps of fun, some of the corners have moss growing just outside the line, kept me on my toes!
The R Wagon is definitely quicker than the R32 through the bends, and I can't feel any downside to the extra length/weight at the back, it's certainly better balanced than the front-heavy V6.
More boring highway for the next 2 hours, then I'll see what the traffic's like on old pac
