VW MY16 Changes

Now I'm really annoyed. I specifically asked my dealer before ordering a GTI PP a few weeks ago about MY16 changes and he said he'd been to an MY16 information day and there were no real changes ("only the air con icon changes" he told me).

If I'd known this I would have waited. Will be giving him a call tomorrow to see where I stand as I really wanted CarPlay. I only got a PP to get Xenons and now they're available on the base GTI.

I was lucky to get the word that this stuff was on the way as I was looking at a new car a few weeks ago. I immediately put my wallet back in my pocket and decided to wait. I didn't know the whole story but I knew xenons were going to be standard and the screen was changing. My son has a GTI PP on order for October delivery and he was assured last week it would have all the new stuff in it.

I ordered a car subject to an MY16 spec, and mine is arriving in August.

My order for a GTI Performance was placed with the dealer on the 5th of May. My requested delivery date was the 25th of October (long story). I called the dealer and they're going to confirm the model year for me. He says he thinks it'd be MY16 because the delivery date is so late in the year. Here's hoping!

If it's MY15 then I'll live; it is what I ordered after all. If it's MY16 then excellent. That being said if I had known about all these changes I would have bought the Golf R.

Lesson learnt. Never order a car until details regarding the next model year are official. Just have to be patient.

EDIT: Dealer got back to me. My car is due to hit the production line next week and will be MY16.

I don't understand why everyone is saying they would have bought an R with the MY 16 changes. From what I can see the best value for money in the MY16 changes is by far the GTI non PP. Am I missing something here?

For me it is because I was right on the edge between the GTI PP and R. I really wanted leather but the R with leather was too much, and the GTI PP with leather was too close in price to the R. But then I liked the looks (inside and out) of the PP more than the R. Leather would have tipped the R in my favour.

How much should I expect to negotiate for drive away price for MY16 GTI DSG, without any additional features other than the included MY16 goodies?

Can cloth be optioned into the MY16 R? I really don't like the VW leather.

Hi, I have an MY16 Highline on order, delivery date is 27/7 (when the ship arrives, so maybe a few weeks later). So perhaps there will be plenty of stock very soon.


Very happy about the leather seats, carplay, and keyless extras.

I'm trying to find the actual updated brochure.

I think I've figured out the brochure URL - I can get older brochures to open by tweaking the number after the "rendition_" in the URL (2 is the current march my15 brochure, 1 is My14, etc - but "3" is not yet published, alas):

BIG improvements. All of us with the rubbish low rent touch screen will be stoked![emoji16]. Cheaper too! I'm now wondering if we will be able to upgrade the head unit (way too expensive) or at least see if Apple CarPlay is a software upgrade (doubt it). Maybe it will sync with an iPhone properly again like it did in the Mk 6?? The screen and lack of tech were big reasons why I traded my Mk 6 GTI for a Merc 250 Sport instead of going to the Mk 7, but then hated the bone jarring non adjustable suspension and terrible double clutch gearbox. So I traded it 6 months later for a GTI Performance! Now love the drive again, still think the screen etc is terrible but you don't buy a car for that. As I learned the hard way. I see Xenons will be standard on the normal GTI as well. That was a reason to go for the Performance. I desperately wanted a sunroof but no and wanted a manual but no. Now I'd buy a standard GTI! The tricky Performance diff is incredible though. Off to my service dept to see what they can do[emoji37]. At least the voice pronunciation has been significantly improved at my first service and a factory upgrade download. It was actually quite comical how bad that was. [emoji23]

Just ordered a MY16 Build White GTI -PP with leather.
Glad I waited - luckily it took a bit longer to sell my previous MK6 GTI and I'd been monitoring other places on the net that indicated the App-Connect 6.5inch touch screen would be coming.
Having the Keyless Access is just a bonus.

I went to a couple of dealers today to try place an order, they told me to drop in again in a couple of weeks when they have more information and their allocation. Was there much movement on the drive away price? I was a bit surprised that they quoted 54k for standard drive away. I thought it'll be less with the price drops...

Did they say when you could expect to receive it?

They had to add a note in the contract it would be a MY16 build as the part number for the MY16 cars isn't on the System yet.
I understand there's a small number of MY16 GTI's + PP's on the way.
I won't know until the end of the week when I might get my car - earliest the end of Sept, latest date - who knows.

Me neither. Glad I got mine before as the leather would have been a deal breaker. Fronts in leather look good new, but the rear seat is awful. Way too much 5 yo saggy daggy creased and shiny leather out there...

I have the spec I wanted and will happily pay to upgrade to 6.5" nav with the associated benefits.
