MY16 Golf Pricing
Originally posted by NMoth View PostYes that's true, he was the first dealer to quote me under 50k or quote at all. Going to see if I can push it to 48K. That would seal the deal otherwise I'll wait for the official pricing.
After an unpleasant experience with one dealer I suggest you write in the special conditions what is not negotiable (“Must be MY16 ….. etc). Another dealer told me the contract is binding but they can “adjust” the specification. I am not a lawyer but know if someone presents you with a contract it is going to have conditions favourable to them.
Watch out for the clause where they give you three days to agree to a price increase. I changed it to 7 days.
The other thing I learnt is when you agree to a price put down a deposit and exchange contacts immediately.
In my case I got what I thought was a good deal but accepted the dealer’s excuses about exchanging contracts (was not concerned as they had told me they had confirmed my order with VW Australia, “it’s my RDO”, etc).
When I did go in I was told the car was no longer “available” but a more expensive model was. I suspect they decided they used the time to find a better deal for themselves.
So much for VW Australia wanting to improve the “customer experience”.

When I bought my MY16 GTIPP they wrote in the "Special Conditions" box on the New Vehicle Contract:
"Contract is subject to supply of MY2016 Golf GTI Performance".
I've since been given a printout from the salesman from the VW NADCON system showing all the dates of the build, shipment, arrival etc.
My car is probably being built this week or next week and I should see it Mid Oct.
If you're having issues getting a dealer to commit to a price then try another dealer - mine has been great so far.Last edited by AJW; 11-07-2015, 08:32 AM.MY21 Golf MK8 GTI | Kings Red Metallic | all options |

It makes their job easier because you have the complete timetable of the car build, shipping etc so you don't have to keep asking them what's going on.
What you have to realise is the last dated entry is when the ship docks in your city.
The dealer then needs to tell you when the car will be delivered as it has to go thru' Customs, Australian compliance checks, transportation, pre-delivered and rego applied - so allow 2 & a bit weeks.MY21 Golf MK8 GTI | Kings Red Metallic | all options |

You boys and girls pricing up GTi's, assuming you are all good with more power and AWD, should be pushing to get into a current stock MY15 R. The MY16, not due in country till August, have now got standard leather and the bigger Nav screen as such current stock will be a great buy.
As an example there are 5 brand spankers R's sitting at my local dealer, a deal is definitely on the cards if you push. My guess, and it's a guess, a manual R non met paint should be close to $50 drive away, worth a thought noting they include some of the My16 GTi things already

It's a lot better than being quoted over $48k on road for a stock GTI though Mikey!

Agreed, I'm just saying if I had the choice between an MY15 R and MY16 GTI and there was a couple k in it, I know which way I'd go.
I haven't monitored the prices that closely of late so cannot judge as well as I could a year ago.

Just sayin, the MY16 R gets leather, the larger Nav screen and the software for Apple/android as standard fare now. (I know cause we took delivery of a loaded R just off the boat two weeks ago, MY15 of course) and as a standard base car you get some of the mY16 GTi upgrades, remote start, xenons for example on the MY15 R so you only miss out on the 6.5" screen and software.

Comparing a GTI to an R brings interesting responses. Some won't look at the relatively minimal price differences between the R and PP because of personal preferences and/or prejudices. For me, it's no contest. I'm over the red stitching and interior lighting, and the AWD grip in today's soggy Melbourne and Victorian roads is a revelation.
