VW MY16 Changes

Volkswagen makes sweeping MY16 updates : Reversing camera, Apple CarPlay, new touchscreens standard

So one of the biggest reasons I chose the S3 over the Golf equivalent, was because of the multimedia interface being low rent.

Looking at the MY16 changes, VWA have included some great upgrades.

Ford Focus needs to be replaced shortly (Crap Powershift gearbox), so the GTI will be back on the cards

BIG improvements. All of us with the rubbish low rent touch screen will be stoked![emoji16]. Cheaper too! I'm now wondering if we will be able to upgrade the head unit (way too expensive) or at least see if Apple CarPlay is a software upgrade (doubt it). Maybe it will sync with an iPhone properly again like it did in the Mk 6?? The screen and lack of tech were big reasons why I traded my Mk 6 GTI for a Merc 250 Sport instead of going to the Mk 7, but then hated the bone jarring non adjustable suspension and terrible double clutch gearbox. So I traded it 6 months later for a GTI Performance! Now love the drive again, still think the screen etc is terrible but you don't buy a car for that. As I learned the hard way. I see Xenons will be standard on the normal GTI as well. That was a reason to go for the Performance. I desperately wanted a sunroof but no and wanted a manual but no. Now I'd buy a standard GTI! The tricky Performance diff is incredible though. Off to my service dept to see what they can do[emoji37]. At least the voice pronunciation has been significantly improved at my first service and a factory upgrade download. It was actually quite comical how bad that was. [emoji23]

All I seen was keyless entry in the 110 Highline and close the window in disgust! That is all I wanted on my car but no Golf Mk7 had it when I ordered mine....

It's very rare that VWA deserves some kudos but they're some critical changes to stay competitive in the market.

Looks like I exited the MY14 just before it copped another ugly depreciation hit!

Now I'm really annoyed. I specifically asked my dealer before ordering a GTI PP a few weeks ago about MY16 changes and he said he'd been to an MY16 information day and there were no real changes ("only the air con icon changes" he told me).

If I'd known this I would have waited. Will be giving him a call tomorrow to see where I stand as I really wanted CarPlay. I only got a PP to get Xenons and now they're available on the base GTI.

I got mine 3 months too early, only due to the EOFY deals kicking in early.

Now just gotto hope retrofitting the new Discover Media unit won't cost the earth to put into an MY15.....ffs...

Hmm...my Highline Wagon is on a boat heading this way however a BW21 day 3...just missed out by the sounds of things. Some nice things but nothing I'm too upset about. Carplay would have been nice though.

So much cool stuff I would love to have in my standard GTI.

I have to realize though that the price I paid a year ago for mine new wouldn't be doable on a my16 for at least another year or so.

Just contacted a dealer - they say the Discover Media upgrade is do-able (not sure if they meant CarPlay also) & should cost ~$2-3k.

If that gets me full-functionality (with Multi-Function Display & steering wheel controls with voice), then i'm in.............

Though, part's aren't in yet of course, so they suggested calling them back in a month or two.

I want to see if they have changed the options. My Mk6 has the Dynaudo option - and I've kinda grown used to it. I don't think I can go back to ordinary sound.

I got a my15 too. Nothing really too disappointing, I dont really play with the screen much anyway. Only 1 thing that really annoys me on my Golf R is the rattle bell at 2000rpm.

If these updates had been brought out 2 months earlier I would have ordered an R. That sucks. Ah well, I'll get over it once I'm driving my PP I'm sure
