  • Rev hang (manual gearboxes)

I understand it's pretty typical of modern day VW gearboxes/engines to have the revs hang a bit between changes when the engine is warm.

When the engine is cold in my GTI the revs drop like a stone between changes, which means they can be faster. As it warms up, the hang time increases substantially.

What I'm surprised about is the difference between cold and warm engines. The effect this has on the rev hang is quite large. I now pretty much have two driving styles as a result - one for the first 10 minutes and one for thereafter.

Does this match anyone else's experience?

Can't say I've ever noticed. Will lookout for this and report back.
