That must be why there are only two 135TDI's for sale in Australia!

    • I want honest feedback from anyone with a Golf Alltrack about what they DON'T like about the car. I'm well aware of the strengths of the car, now just need to be objective about this.

If anyone's had a look at my profile it'll show that I've been a member since 2011. That's because I owned the dreaded 118TSI + DQ200 dry speed DSG7 combo and sold the car just after 2 years of owning it. Contrary to what I might have projected then, I don't really hate Volkswagen, I just hate the 118TSI engine and the DQ200 gearbox. Time heals wounds and I am more objective now... but my opinion of those 2 pieces of technology have not changed.

Time has also shown me that certain VW gearboxes are reliable, like the DQ250 on the Golf Alltrack and previous Golf GTI's and TDI's. This plus the 5 year warranty, and likelihood of goodwill repairs from VW after warranty has convinced me to have a 2nd look at VW. Please tell me I am not going to regret this decision.

Again... if there is anything at all that has irked you about your Golf Alltrack ownership, let me know.

      • Sometimes the nav/media unit can be slow to load on start up...that's it after 2 years.

        • I agree with rooboy about the nav unit a little slow to load

Ride can be described as ok depending on what tyres and sidewalls you have mine are 19's and 35 sidewall maybe to harsh for some
If thats a issue go the 17's with 55 sidewalls
No adaptive settings for the ride either

If you like pushing it into corners the rear does wallow at 7/10ths and over easy fix is new rear solid Golf R swaybar and linkages mine corners nice and flat now

The paddle shifters as stock are way to small to be useful

I did have a leak from the sunroof that was a crimped hose from the factory all fixed with no hassles under warranty

i get about 40k from a set of tyres

Gearbox changes from 1st to 2nd at a crawl in heavy traffic and i worry about it slipping to much in heavy stop start traffic
Easy fix is manual mode and leave it in 1st

Thats it i am afraid been wracking my brain but thats all i can come up with i have driven it 50,000k so far

          • I have a scenario for existing Alltrack owners... Which would you pick?

            1. 2nd hand 135tdi are rare as hens teeth - there were 2 on Carsales recently but now 0. Would you wait for one to pop up around mid 30's for a MY17
            2. Premium 132tsi. Starting high 30's for second hand MY18 and low-mid 40s for new MY19.
            3. R Grid Wagon second hand MY18 mid-high 40's.

Is the R Grid worth the extra $6k - $10k? Key criteria for me is boot space (wagon) and a bit of extra oomph over a standard golf.

The r grid will have the alltrack beat on extra oomph 213kw and 380nm without a tune

Tho it will require 98 ron fuel at a extra 20c a liter more plus fuel economy in the 10 to 12 ltr/100 range around town depending how much ommph you use a lot less on the highway cruise tho about 7ish i would imagine

The 132 tsi is the least appealing to me just not enough go for me at least

A tuned 135tdi will give you many smiles with about 7.3ltr/100 around town but you have to wait for it and jump on one quick limiting your bargaining for a better price

If the oomph beats all and money is not a issue go the r grid if your not keeping it forever

If its a car to keep and you want it to just keep going and going get the tdi

Also don't forget the ground clearance is different the alltrack has no issues with kerbs and speedhumps, steep driveways ect ect whereas the grid you have to keep a eye on the scrape factor on the front spoiler

I am interested in the base model with DAP, so it will have the smaller wheels. Hoping that would make a better ride.

What about the lack of blind spot monitoring and RCTA? Are you annoyed it doesn't have one. My wife's car has both. I don't really use it for blind spots, I still look over my shoulder when changing lanes. What is kinda useful is if you indicate before looking, the car beeps so I immediately know there is a car there (before looking over my shoulder). Just wonder whether I will feel like I'm missing out for the duration of my car ownership.

With the radio unit - is it just the initial load when you start the car that's slow? Or is the response generally slow (ie. when pressing buttons it takes a while for the system to respond?)

Also, I have a tradein so it's hard to gauge value and we have only been talking changeover price here... but if I calculate the tradein to be smack bang in the middle of the redbook tradein range, it comes out to be about $36.5k driveaway for the base model MY19.5 with DAP and metallic paint. Is this a good price?

Never had a car with blindspot sensor so i don't miss it and reversing is no issue i drive a 28 ton truck all day reversing out of driveways a car is no challenge at all lol

It' just a little slow to load i think because rooboy and i have turned on the traffic updates by obd11 once loaded its very quick with no lag (keep a microfibre cloth handy the screen loves to collect fingerprints)

Think about going the premium model you get the excellent l.e.d headlights with the double drl that everyone wants
power drivers seat and a few other goodies also the sound and vision pakage is very good the sound system is just fantastic and the drivers screen plus the 9.2 inch upgrade in the center make the car feel much more premuim

Alas, mine is now for sale. I had to get a bigger car for family reasons and touring, so bought a Passat Alltrack Wolfsburg 140TDI. I will be putting it on CarSales soon.

Mine's the 140TDI, white with towbar also, no sunroof, 7 speed DSG. Very comfortable car, soft suspension, wife hates driving it, too soft for her. She's on her third GTI and loves their responsiveness, but their low ground clearance limit their everyday usefulness.I respond to her Passat criticism by calling the GTI her "toy".

If you only have a blind under the sunroof like my Golf Alltrack had, and not a solid screen, and you start to fry in summer, try cutting up one of those silver sun blocker things for windscreens to about 50mm less than the length and width of the sunroof, slide it between the screen and the sunroof, then close the screen again. I bent a 30mm lip down at the front of mine so that closing the screen held it securely in place. I got my silver thing from Supercheap, about $30 from memory.

                            • Actually, choose a casino LOL The statistics shows that caches of earning some cash are drastically higher in online casinos than in poker rooms. Of course, it doesn't apply to you if you're not in it for money. Otherwise here's your money room https://www.bitcasinopay.com/
