Cant be too hard can it Usually the hangers are stuck into the locating hole in the mats and just pull out.

If they are genuine VW mats they wont need trimming If not you have been had
think is i didnt purchase directly from dealer but altoparts itself which i am sure is from VW itself. as for the hanger it really tight up and got a logo there. it will be great if you can take some photos of your rubber mat to see cheers mate.

      Rubber mats?

      Hello!

Just picked up the new GTI last week and was thinking of getting some rubber mats to help protect against the carpet, especially from wet/muddy days!

Wondering if anyone has either the VW ones or any recommended after market ones that you can recommend?

      Thanks!

VW OEM rubber mats, I currently have them in my MK7 and the MK6 had them. Could not find ones to fit correctly after market which ended up costing me more in the long run. There are Monster Mats getting thrown around in some other forum from the US but from what I can see are just as costly after shipping and only left hand drive.

How much are OEM mats these days?

I've always just made sure they are included with the car (usually at no cost). 100% worth the money since they fit properly and do what they are supposed to.

If it has an engine or heartbeat it's going to cost you.

$220 for front and rear was the quote with my invoice, but that was included as part of the sale.

Ok, thanks for the details, i'll try ask my dealer see if they can do anything about it...

Not sure if you would know, but do they 'replace' the standard mats that come with the GTI, or do they go on 'top' of them?

Replace. The carpet ones become spares to either sell on or keep top drop in when you sell it so they are fresh and new

If it has an engine or heartbeat it's going to cost you.

I've done the reverse - had rubber mats included with car, but have gone back to the carpets as I prefer their 'feel' under the heel. The rubbers have an embossed triangle pattern on them with slight gaps between the triangles, where heels of a pair of my shoes got ever so slightly caught in.....nothing drastic, but just preferred the feel of the carpet, as it's evenly flat across the surface.

I'll alternate back to the rubbers at some stage, but for now the carpets are comfier.
