Looks like he's had himself (or herself) a custom Euro plate made up for the car, seeing as it's obviously a US-spec car in the states. Wonder if he's legally allowed to drive around with it on.

Well spotted - how far did you get on yours?

Might depend which state the car is in, some states appear to not even care whether you have a front plate on, much less a 'personalised Euro' (based on my admittedly limited reading on the US forums).

I know that in a few states in the US (mainly south-west IIRC), you don't need a front plate at all - it's entirely optional. Hence the bracketless front grille that's a factory option in those states. However I don't think you're allowed to fit any old random plate to the front of the car in those states, although I could be wrong!

I didn't dare drive on the road with my custom plate fitted. It's a decent fine and demerit points in SA.

Correct - I don't think you are permitted to, but some of the USA guys do anyway, the police either don't care or the fine is minimal.

Given the likelihood of being shot these days over there at a random stop I suspect they're even more lenient these days.

I do need to get me one of them there Euros though.
