Nice one - the extra black on white works well on the ED40, and gives the car a much better look than the ridiculous stock wheels VW Oz chose to fit.

I could definitely see myself making that mod with a white ED40.. perhaps just with my personal bias back to OZ.

Does anyone know if it was needed to use spacers to avoid the caliper from touching the wheels on this car?

It is running 5mm spacers up front - whether that was for looks or clearance I am unsure, as the rear is running 10mm spacers but retains the R brakes. Check out VWVortex for more information, there is a build thread there - the car is running a stack of modifications.
