After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. Bizarre. Given there is a clear demand by a significant number of consumers for red lines their approach once again is out of whack with the market.

I guess you'll need to hunt a low mileage second hander, wait until VWA pull their finger out, or fork out for a PP and a new set of wheels.

    • VW are obviously a bit slow on the website then. They still advertise the wonders of Bi-xenons on the regular GTI. If it hasn't been available since MY14 that's a pretty long time to be misrepresenting!

I don't understand why you can now spec a lesser golf with better features than the GTI. The same pack was supposed to be available across the range??

Ralfi, were you told the luxury pack will definitely be available on GTI? I've been holding off on a new manual GTI because I can't get xenons. I don't want DSG (hence no PP GTI), so the luxury pack would suit my requirements perfectly.

I don't think it was ever announced that it would be, only that the pack existed on other models - although it seems odd as Jimi said that it wouldn't eventually cross over. I've been suggesting a GTI Highline for a long time, although it would price up in the $51-52k range in manual and that just seems way too much to spend on a GTI.

I appreciate $6k is still a lot of cash for most people, and you would forgo leather/sunroof but you'd be gaining the R which just seems a lot more logical buying. Especially if xenons hold value to you cause then you'd be getting the 'real deal double U'.

(I'm obviously only talking Tassie rrps here as well)

He seemed pretty sure that it will be.

But this is just from one rep at one dealer. I'd call up a few dealers to see if they say the same thing.

Looks like we may be after similar spec cars. Good luck finding yours.

            • Thanks Dutch and Ralfi. Yes, $52k is pushing it for a GTI on my budget, regardless of spec. R is just that bit too much for my budget, too. Of late I'm thinking maybe a 2nd hand manual R in a year or two. Hopefully in the $30s by then? At the moment I'm happy to hold out for the prospect of xenons on a base GTI at some stage. We'll see how long that lasts!

On the other hand, I still have a soft spot for Alfas, having driven and been impressed by the base Giulietta. I can get xenons, leather and manual in the 1.4 multi-air turbo for mid-high $30s. Similar performance and economy to the Golf highline (fine for my needs), but a port injected engine, so no carbon build-up issues (as per the DI VWs). I may even jump that way.

              • Hi All. I've been looking at MK 7 Golf GTI's for a while but haven't been able to get the specification I want so am holding out. A manual GTI Performance would be great, although I wish VW would spec the 8 inch touch screen in Australia as it does in some overseas markets. Does anyone have any thoughts on whether a model update might make the 8 inch screen available soon? Also, does anyone know whether a GTI Edition 40 is in the works? A slight power upgrade, LSD and bi-xenons, available in manual would be fantastic. I do worry though that if and when an Edition 40 does become available, it may only be DSG in Australia.

                • Ben. That's the exact spec I wanted but couldn't have. Basically the GTI Performance but with a manual and 8" Nav. You might be waiting a while, I haven't heard anything - good luck!

VW won against me and I settled for a normal GTI

Notice you've got the Bi-Xenons. Lucky you were able to grab them on their own. Seems the only way now is if there's an older built, demo car a dealer's willing to sell (or wait until the Luxury Pack becomes available). Not good for those like me who are after a 2015 build.

When did you purchase, & can I ask what price you were offered for that package (message me if you prefer)?

                    • I got the car last April after putting a factory order in in October 2013 (built Feb 14, so MY14)

I sourced it through a friend and also applied the corporate plus discount. As it was new he wasn't a huge amount of help but I got about 10% off the on road RRP. That should he achievable most places with the corporate discount

                      • After some information and I couldn't find the answer via search. My very much loved Mk7 GTI's wheel has been the victim of running into concrete kerb care of my wife. Its not a scratch but a dint in the edge of the rim so doubt it will be fixable. It is isolated, but I'm quite particular and I know I won't be able to live with it. Does anyone know how much a genuine alloy will cost from VW (18" Austin). I'm hoping to prepare myself for tomorrow when I ring. Ballpark cost would be fine!

Yeah I pointed that out to the rep, who was surprised to hear about it.....disappointing..

Good news is that I may be able to purchase via Novated Lease & may qualify for a corporate deal. Just need to do some homework on how all that works.....

An OEM Austin from a dealer would likely cost you in the order of $800. You'd be better off buying a set of second-hand rims in good condition - they come up here and on eBay from time to time; you should get a set of 4 for that price.

                            • Thankyou. Was quoted $995 this morning. Apparently the some of the repairers (good ones) do a really good job, so might see how that goes and in the meantime keep my eyes open for a second hand set. Thanks again for the advice.

I'd definitely be trying for that option first; and a second hand set next. If all else fails you might have luck in some of the overseas stores. These guys don't send to Australia, but I'm sure it could be teed up via a freight forwarder - might still end up nudging $500 AUD but that's still a 50% saving: 18 x 7.5 "Austin" Wheel - Deutsche Auto Parts - Volkswagen and Audi Parts Supplier - Online Discounted Parts Store
