  • Yep, Merc drive away price and is pretty good. That includes all 3 option packs like heated leather seats (much better looking than VW boring Vienna), sat nav, cruise with distronic thingy, amazing stereo upgrade, brilliant iphone connectivity/Bluetooth (FAR FAR better than VW), park assist and can get out of the park as well, blind spot warning, sunroof (bigger than VW), DUal clutch transmission (inferior to VW), bixenons, 18 inch wheels (Merc Aust removed the ****ty run flat tyres thank God). A250 has 155kW, same as Mk 6 GTI but 350nm torque same as Mk 7 GTI. ALso includes free servicing for 3 years. I'd imagine a GTI with PP and these options would be close to 60 or over.
I'm getting very tired of VW being so painful about releasing details, let alone the actual car. I think VW Aust are getting to greedy and they might lose sales from people like myself who has NEVER considered any other car after having a Mk 5 and Mk 6 GTI.

Did they tell you about the delays for the A250 because of the sunroof? Confirm when they can actually deliver.

      • having seen an a250 for the first time on the road the other day i have to say it looks pretty damn good on the move with its DRLs especially in black

        • Yeah they look very nice. When I first had a look at the A250 they said looking at March. Now they are saying July. I've read about some issues with rattles possibly sunroof problems. Very unBenz like. I'm not waiting til then as my car's resale is going to start plummeting. Maybe I could just drive my 67 Cooper S until then and sell the GTI early.

          • The A Class Merc is one size smaller than the Golf, I believe, closer in size to the BMW 1-series hatch. The difference is most notable in the boot space I believe. So if space is important, eg for carting children and luggage, the Golf has it over the Bimmer and the Merc.
If the answer to the Monty Hall problem was 50/50, the contestant, on average, would win the car 50% of the time simply by sticking with their original guess...but you can only win a one-in-three guessing game 33.33% of the time so it can't be 50/50, can it?

You might as well wait for the new R with that kind of delivery times lol

The A Class is in the same segment as the Golf and 1 Series (and the Focus , Corolla etc). Interior space is dependent on the priorities of the manufacturer.

                • The A class Merc has clearly been inspired by the Golf and particularly the GTI and R. Especially the red, silver and black accents in the cabin. They have clearly gone for form over function with a claustrophobic rear accommodation ( not that I sit in the back!). The boot is compromised by the design as well, particularly the width of the opening. I really do think the ride is too harsh but apparently you can order "comfort AMG sports suspension" whatever that means! Where is the performance pack GTI??????? My decision would be a lot easier if VW weren't being so greedy. I don't want to buy a standard GTI only for them to release a PP GTI in 6 months. If the rest of the world has a PP GTI announced / released at the same time as the standard model why do we get stuffed around by VW Australia. Because they want to make more money.

I am not sure if that statement is so obvious that it goes without saying or so nonsensical it should not have been made.

Not surprising, especially since they stopped bringing in the 3 door MKVI several years ago. The article has a bull****e statement about sales of 3 doors being low... Really! Maybe that's because you couldn't buy them... Nuffies!

Generally VW sticks to 5 year intervals for ED's since they're anniversary models. I'm sure they'll bring out a special model in a year or two ala Mk5 Pirelli and Mk6 Adidas.

                            • Just looking at the VW and Audi websites again. I think the Audi one is even worse than VW Australia's now. The VW site used to be so much better a few years ago. They should both be ashamed when compared with the Mercedes site. Once again examples of VAG taking customers for granted.

It goes without saying... the A series is a Golf/Focus competitor. So it is the same "size" as them. The next "size" down is the Polo/Yaris class. Whether the interior space is equivalent is another matter. 1 Series is constricted by RWD and engine layout.
