Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

I think this is extremely unlikely. The Mk6 starts at $38,990 for a 3-door manual. I'd expect no more than a $500-$1000 drop like-for-like, best-case.

    • How/why would a Golf GTI (VII) be cheaper than a Focus ST when in every other market a Golf GTI is more expensive (substantially so) than the Focus? If VW could price the GTI under 40K easily they wouldn't have stripped it of the HIDS (which the Focus ST has as standard)

Prediction = no 3 door. Sales of 3 door Polo GTIs serious lag behind the 5 door.
That fact seriously restricts the possible sales of the Fiesta ST and 208 GTI in this market. Our market doesn't really want 3 doors.

      • For the enthusiasts out there, if the PP doesn't come with the GTI, will it be possible to add a front differential to your car after?

The UK GTI is about 100 quid more but includes heck of a lot as standard IIRC including bixenon and 18" rims, LED fog lights, LED tail lights, color MFD screen, Automatic Distance control, alarm (I don't think the alarm is standard in Australia for the Mk6), tyre pressure monitoring system (this should be the higher spec not just alerting you if your pressure is low), electrical folding mirrors, front and rear parking sensors (tho this is standard on Highline in Mk7)

From what I can tell from the aus spec shots. The GTI won't have anything extra standard over the Highline, other than the GTI bits of course...

I suppose thats how the mk6 GTI was done too?

I'll hazard a guess that it costs more money to ship the cars to us on the other side of the world

And yet our R was surprisingly good value vs Europe IIRC.

But the point is we should be comparing like for like: Mk6 GTI UK specs (which was as cheap and no frills as our own GTI base spec) vs the Mk7 GTI UK specs.

                • The UK doesn't get Sat Nav as standard as far as I can see.

In fact the option list looks to have been pared way back. Basically, sunroof, leather, sat/nav, dynaudio, park assist, keyless entry, ACC (chassis control), PP, 19 inch wheels.

Stick with me... VWA decides to make sat nav standard on our GTI and ditch the standard HIDS (found in euro models) for halogens.
This means they can offer and price the main options for the GTI exactly the same as the rest of the Golf VII range - Leather, HIDs, Sunroof. GTI alone would have the option of Active Chassis Control.

It was standard on the GTI, GTD and R.

The Mk6 GTI and above had a spec quite a bit higher than the TSIs. At least as much of a jump as you now see between Comfortline and Highline in the Mk7. That may change, and it may not. We'll just have to wait for the final specs to be released next Tuesday. Then we'll be in a better position to speculate on the final price.

Alarm wasn't standard in the UK GTI when I was mucking with the UK configurator. So it is an added feature on the UK spec. Dunno why I typed Australian spec - that will teach me to compose messages on the iPhone maybe the skeptics are right. I need a 5" screen

EDIT - thought you had quoted the TPMS bit for some reason..

I don't think this was standard?

This was what our old GTI and Tiguan had

                      • Hey guys, just found this in Autocar New Zealand, this may give us a idea of what a performance pack could form, when it comes here

"Other new models surfacing next year include the Passat and Golf R in the first quarter, along with the availability ofthe Performance Pack for the Golf GTI. The latter includes the electronic locking
diff, the bigger brakes, and the slight increase in power but also the adaptive dampers and xenon lights and a few other bits in a pack that is likely to retail for $5000. Considering the dampers and xenons already cost as much, it's a definite box to tick for the enthusiast. The adaptive dampers are worth it alone for they take the niggle from the low speed ride in their comfort setting and firm things up when you want to go faster, all at the touch ofa button."

I think if you could get a GTI with that option list for a nice $49k drive away it would be on the cards for my self. I have just orded a TDI Highline for my partner and will be looking for a new car for myself in the next 12ish months

                          • The pricing on those bi-Xenons is crazy. Is that what they cost on other models?

Still think the NZ price and options list is pretty much what we will get with a simple exchange rate conversion.
