Is Apple Carplay a thing for new VW's or is it something you can add yourself? I've got a '15 GTI and would be interested in getting it if it's possible

When you get a chance would you be able to take some more pictures of the headunit, particularly the menu before you launch Carplay or Android Auto.
I just want to show a dealer I'm talking to that the larger screen is available overseas.
I'm not sure if they're playing dumb here to move older pre-MY16 stock or not.

Actually, I am having trouble finding the Carplay button , it automatically starts when I plug the cable in.

I think I recall seing the button if I press "Phone" there will be an carplay symbol in the left buttom.
Check my link after 1 hour or 2

It's standard in 2016 model golf, with 6.5" instead of 5.8"
I do not think you can add it your self..
Maybe by replacing the whole head unit + trim when it will be available...

Ask your dealer if it is upgradable

Not sure the Australian MY16 models will get it yet. Someone should be able to confirm it soon...

Picked up my 90 TSI comfortline wagon on Friday after trading in my CX5. All in paid $30,000 including OTR costs. Not sure if that's a good deal or not. The car is sublime compared to the Mazda. That's said only driven in 50 kms so far.

I picked up my new Golf 103 Highline - drove through the Blue Mountains and after doing more than 400kms still got more than half a tank full of petrol. Pretty amazing after driving my Volvo for years.

Drive away cost was $36k.

Not out of the factory (mind-blowingly), but you can get it enabled - QLD, VIC & I think NSW have mobs who can do it for you. I have, & it works nicely.

Here in Sweden, well Europe, the new engine is 110TSI (110 HP) just like the GT is 150hp

I saw the VIN briefly on the dealer's screen (nadoc?), and double checked it was 110TSI not 110TDI. Can I use the VIN to track the build?
Excited that this is likely a new engine for Australia.

Yep you sure can. Also if you can contact the dealer and get it we can put it into the VW system, download the car data full specs, and then we can all find out if it has CarPlay and confirm the engine and other changes.

What do you think? You can pm the vin and I could email you copy of the report and list a copy online removing first the vin number.


Then we can start building a list of changes.

Hey GolfRSweden, thanks for the info on the new CarPlay system. I've just ordered an MY16 GTI which comes with the new infotainment system and I'm curious to know if it integrates with the smaller MFD screen? For example, if using Apple Maps through CarPlay, will it show the next turn on the MFD?
