The Official "I have ordered/received my new MK7 Golf" Thread
Anyone familiar with the inner-workings of cargo ships? Was tracking the "Figaro" to the pick up port, but it has been doing circles outside the port for hours.
Does holding patterns exist for ships entering ports? If so, why not just stop? It's not like they'd fall out of the sky?
She is waiting to enter Zeebrugge. But that doesn't explain why she hasn't dropped anchor to wait. After all, she is next to several anchored ships (the light blue squares). Maybe the sea is a bit bouncy and so to protect your precious cargo she is staying underway rather than bounce around at anchor.

Ahh that makes sense. She is experiencing 40kn winds, could very well explain the strange behaviour
I've read back through this thread a few pages but I can only realistically go so far. Can anyone give me a ball park figure regarding estimated delivery times for a GTI (with PP) and an R from the date of order?
I ask because I sort of need to time (+/- a month or so) the delivery of my potential Golf with the release of my existing car. I more or less know exactly when my current car will be leaving me, but I don't want to wait until a month before so to order my Golf and then find I'm waiting 6 months for it. Won't be the end of the world, but it would be a pain in my back side. If I know roughly how long I will need to wait then I can order ahead of time.
Any info very much appreciated.
Cheers,
- Matt

4 - 5months for a car that is already scheduled for production. 6-8 months for made to order car.
Thanks for the reply. Is there a way to determine if the car is already scheduled or made to order? Or can the dealer really only tell you once the order has been put in the system? Either way, if I'm going to pull the trigger I should be doing it soon I think!

Your dealer can tell you if there is already a car meeting your specifications scheduled (it's up to them how hard they work here. One dealer may tell you none available, another may be able to "find" a car for you. Bigger dealerships with better network wins here!).
Once they have found a car, they can then look up in NADCON (their dealer admin system) for estimated time for production, shipment, arrival on our shores etc.
Once on our shores, allow 2-4 weeks for dealer delivery.
Edit: You can still ask for NADCON printout when you factory order a car (once it's accepted by VW.) people have waited up to 3 months for their cars to be scheduled for production. If you have already placed an order, then they should be able to show you the details on NADCON.
You might also get lucky that a car meeting your needs is already available for sale here in Australia. In that case, you are probably looking at 1-2 weeks delivery time. Really depends on what you are after.
Thanks agentthumb. It's looking likely that there will be a point I either have one too many cars, or one too few (ie. none!). I have a way to work around the second scenario and the first will just hurt my hip pocket a little. The last 3 cars I've bought were all available that day, with two of them being brand new. Having to wait for a car is a new thing for me but I think the wait will be worth it

Definitely worth it! I'm waiting for a golf wagon myself with DAP2. Was lucky the day I ordered it, it was just finished off the production line. Now I just have to wait till June to pick it up (fingers crossed it will be mid / late May)
I ordered my Golf R white mid Jan and will be delivered late April early May, not sure what everyone else is experiencing, but that seems about there.. its a FEB 2015 build
