I wonder if this is the first steps in responding to the fully-specced A250?
Including the 19s does help explain the price differential to the UK which works out to around 1450 AUD today (0.67 exchange). The Detroits were a 1200 option over Denvers, any additional premium for 19s and maybe some rounding to keep things neat and there's the $3k package.

Oh trust me guys, we will get both 3 door and 5 door models. Each available with the PP. The 18s are standard on the non PP model and the 19s are standard on the PP model, specs could change... I'll be consulting the final product in the next few weeks, I can make the suggestion if you guys wish.AUTOBLOGAUSTRALIA : http://autoblogaustralia.blogspot.com.au

- they don't look as good/the car sits strangely on them/they're harder to look after (my view);
- they make the optional ACC a necessity if you want to live with the car every day (that's a biggie); and
- in isolation, they add cost.
So it'll end up being a $41k car that people aren't entirely satisfied with (non PP) or a $45.5k car (PP and ACC) that has wheels that aren't everyone's cup of tea. It's a big gap. Perhaps they're taking the packaging up of options too far?MY14 MK VII GTI | Pure White | Manual | Bi-Xenons (his)

I think the standard GTI should have 17 inch wheels. Not everyone wants a go-cart type ride for normal road driving. Let alone having shorter sidewalls (on bigger wheels) and bigger chances of tyre or wheel damage. You see the same thing with MY13 Touaregs in Australia. How the 4xMotion (the off road model) Touareg comes standard with 20 inch wheels and 45 profile tyres is mind boggling.

Selling the 19" rims should be easy enough. But having to wait six months just to check the 19" box on a custom order would be painful.AUTOBLOGAUSTRALIA : http://autoblogaustralia.blogspot.com.au

Sounds nice too, although I suspect it still has that fake soundakator engine noise coming through the stereo
Everyone keeps telling us that the Performance Edition is 0.1 seconds faster and 10BHP more powerful which we all know, but I haven't seen anyone do a 100-0kph brake test comparison... (although the ventilated larger brakes in the PE might just be to cater for the extra braking brought about by having the e-diff)Last edited by Ryan_R; 28-04-2013, 08:19 PM.
