Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

Should be warranty, no probs. Re a courtesy car, on the 3 occasions so far that I've had a Golf go in for extended warranty repairs (Mk6 engine, Mk 6 clutches (both the same 118TSI, at 1 to 2 years old), Mk7 electrical gremlin (next car, a TDI, and right now), the service adviser has got on to VWA customer care in Sydney (I think) who authorised and lined up a hire car for the duration. The hire car has been a Passat - they say they prefer to provide a VW, and excess is $700 rather than the full $2K or $3K. They generally need a diagnosis from VW dealer before they will authorise the hire. Courtesy cars have not been available from dealer. Hope this helps.

Did they advise whether warranty will cover it or not?

Sorry to hear about the problems with your Golf and that the dealership will not provide a curtsey car. To not provide a curtsey car (IMO) is just plain poor customer service which will only add to the negative experience of a car being faulty under warranty.

To be honest it is the squeakiest wheel that gets the oil, if I were you I would demand a loan car and take it up with VW directly, don't back down and cause a fuss. It isn't your fault the car has failed to function as intended.

I hope you get a speedy and painless resolution to this problem.

Not that this will help you - every time I have had to leave my VW at the dealership for any faults or service work I have been given a loan car, a couple of times they were brand new off the showroom floor and I'm using one now. Maybe the policy is different in NZ or from dealer to dealer?

Again, best wishes to a speedy fix and back to enjoying your Golf.

Of course they will, there is no way a gearbox failure wouldn't be covered on a 1 year old car with a 3 year warranty in Australia.

Hard shift into 2nd -GTI DSG

OK So my new GTI is being annoying and occasionally shifting really hard from 1st to 2nd when in Manual. It doesn't do it all the time and is more often the first change from a stop. It has absolutely no problems in auto and when it's not jumping it's perfect.

It doesn't matter the speed (though it does effect the severity of the jolt), and it's only 1st into 2nd. Occasionally I see the traction control light flick as it does it too.

To me it feels almost like it's not disengaging or that the engine cut doesn't work. I asked at service and was even able to demonstrate but was told it could still just be learning and to see how it goes. To me the fact that it's in manual surely means it it's not trying learn like in auto modes.

This is my third DSG car and I haven't had this before.

                      Anyone ever heard of it?

Yeah, 99.99.99.99.99.99/100% sure it's losing traction from your manual changes... Go faster, from 1st, change manual - 2nd, gaurentee it will be very severe, TC light comming on = Loosing traction. Either that or a mechatronics issue - very doubtful.

It does it at a dawdle too (obviously no TC light though, but the change is still harsh)

Not sure why I'd do that.

Anyone else heard of a similar issue?

Why wouldn't you? It will tell you if it's a traction problem or not, if the car is revving high (in powerband) and you change gears suddenly, that's the pristine opportunity to see if it's a traction issue.

Then again if you don't want help you could always take it back to dealer so they can keep the car all day and then you go to pick it up after being without your car for the whole day only for them to tell you that they couldn't find anything.
