Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

When the car goes into safe mode does it means it become very slow???

The cars in question were put on trailers and towed back to the service centre. I didn't read all the discussions so I'm not sure what they meant but it seems it is the MU problem as well.

I think safe mode means not being able to exceed a certain speed?

Can't remember offhand but most likely it's an ssp for the golf 7 as it is VW's first MQB vehicle.

Hi all, interested to know whether anyone has experienced any DSG related issues in their Golf 7, following the recall/change to mineral oil?

            Cheers,
            FTO

Hmm, this is concerning. The whole reason I ordered a new 103TSI was to get away from the 7 speed DSG that's been giving me trouble ... Some dealers are saying it's a new box, some are saying it's the same.

Unfortunately I can't get the GTI in a wagon and I'm not a fan of diesel.

You can - it's called an Octavia RS. Comes with either the GTI motor or the GTD (if you prefer the diesel). And if you go for DSG then it's the 6 speed DQ250.

Same gearbox, but new material, and of course the use of mineral oil. I guess only time will tell.

One year old mk7 golf. Gearbox conked out just now

Hi My one year old Golf has just conked out in my driveway with the message "Error: gearbox reverse gear not available". I had just pulled up to take the garbage bin inside, hopped back in car put it into drive, flicked off the brake and that message came up - wasn't even trying to reverse! Getting a tow arranged at present

Has anyone else had this problem? I assume it's covered under warranty? As I"ve heard some people elsewhere on the web say they weren't covered. The reason I bought a new car is so things like this don't happen! I"m not a happy customer. The local golf shop said it could be days before they can fix it and may or may not be able to give me a courtesy car. I need a car to do my job as I travel all around the region. My previous golf (2007) ran like a dream for 5 years - so am very very disappointed and hope this isn't the beginning of any major gearbox problems.

Why wouldn't it be covered by warranty?

If the repair time is excessive then give VW Customer Service a call. They may be willing to organise a hire car.

Always makes me LOL when people say they bought a VW to avoid breakdowns. That's what Mazda 3s are for.

DSG I'm assuming. Unfortunately seems to be happening on a few mk7's already.

Just another reason for buying a manual. I'm certain warranty will take care of it.

Yeah, I've decided my next VW will be a manual.

Just to clarify, my wife's Polo's mechatronics needed replaced within 12 weeks of taking delivery.
She bought it in late 2013.
