Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

How much extended warranty is there left? To 2023?

From what I understood it has factory warranty till 2023, then the previous owner purchased the additional 3yrs.

      • Sounds more like one of those 'insurance policy' deals that are not worth the spend - but given it's got five years from factory that's what you want anyway.

I just think the gap to a brand new vehicle is maybe $10-12k on that, so I'd weigh up what those two years and 12km are worth to you. If you're holding for the longer term then it matters less and if you can get down to mid $40s that would be great.

                They're having a lend.

Mind you, you need to talk direct and not rely on a carsales price - make sure you're paying with a $5x,xxx or walk.

                • My driver's side bi-xenon headlight had to be replaced under warranty, but the replacement has a very different beam pattern than the original one had. Instead of a horizontal pattern that is relatively equally distributed, the replacement is circular and intense in the middle. I have OBDeleven and have tried resetting through basic settings/acknowledge basic settings, and also tried a factory reset through the MIB but nothing seems to work. The dealership says the part number is correct. I have a 2017 MK7 Golf R with DAP, AFS, nav.

Is there a VCDS/OBDeleven coding that can alter the focus/pattern of the beam? I have searched all of the forums and can't find anything relating to beam pattern or focus.

Sounds like the replacement headlight is dodgy. The reflector or xenon bulb could be the issue.
I would go back to the dealer and have them replace it again. No amount of VCDS/OBDeleven modifications will be able to change the beam pattern for a xenon headlight.

Definitely something wrong there. It might be as simple as the bulb not sitting correctly in the housing, or even the wrong globe (IIRC the bi-xenon lights have a mechanical mask for low beam to give the appropriate cut-off. I would think it is unusual for a VW dealer to supply an incorrect headlight (but who knows ? ).

                              • Can somebody please tell me if there's supposed to be a seal in this oil neck? Judging by the parts diagram there should be but mine has nothing and I have a slow oil leak which seems to be coming from the cap.
