Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

      • Hey guys,
In the Mk7.5 golf R, when in 7th gear traveling at 100km/h what RPM is the engine doing?

        Cheers

From memory, comfortably under 2000, but I think closer to 1800.

That'd surely be the veeery long throttle travel in the R. I think the pedal travels almost twice the distance as the little Mazda I just had. Maybe VW think it'll help the fine modulation needed on those tricky, wet track days that one percent of us might attend.

Pedal box fixes this with no negative side effects. I hate the 7.5's long, soft pedal travel. Makes the car feel sluggish and non-responsive.

              • Just noticed a scratch on my driver side door today . It's fingernail deep so won't be fixed easily. Soo annoying, not sure how it got there and all I needed was 2 more weeks of keeping it scratch free as I'm getting ceramic coating done on the 15th...
Ohhhh well, can't control these things.

                • harsh luck!

I got my paint protection done then found some water marks etched into paint work after some light rain last week! Or so I thought, they simply disappeared overnight (not sure how).

A coating won't stop any scratches like that - not sure that will make you feel any better though.

                    • Had my first "enthusiastic" drive on wet roads in my 7.5 R wagon today (we've been having a dry spell here since I bought it). I'm impressed with both the traction and the roadholding Tyres are Continental 5P. It just grips and goes, in conditions where my Skoda would be spinning the front wheels on take-off and understeering around roundabouts (and yes, I have good tyres on the Skoda: Michelin PS4 with heaps of tread depth). I'm a happy chappy

I am well aware of that. But the coating would give it a bit more protection anyway.
Now I'm not sure what to do, fix it with touch up paint before the coating, fix it properly it just go ahead with the coating anyway...

Can the detailer repair/buff it out? Or is it too deep?

Yeah - gotta love the fault-free handling, no matter the conditions. The mags describe it as "clinical", "isolating", "uninvolving" and even "German". What ? And that's after they've blatted on again about the gearbox mistake of 2010.
