Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • The no fart under hard acceleration is because the fuel cut that enables the fart is disabled for maximum acceleration.
As for upshifting at redline automatically that is to protect your engine and gearbox. I dont know why you would like to valve bounce otherwise knock knock

It only seems to stop the fuel cut in the first to second gear change under full acceleration in auto mode and not in manual mode or other gears. There is a definite pause though in gear change from first to second in auto compared to manual and I don't understand what the difference would be? With regards to the automatic upshift at redline I understand it is to avoid valve bounce but I just like the idea of having full control over the gear changing decision and not the car, probably should have got a manual!

        Yer get it checked.

Thats what a DSG tune is for. There are some out there that let you have full control when over in the manual mode [emoji106]

          Hi GT,

They do custom tunes. Parso does a lot of work on VWs

          • Greetings all, I'm wanting to get the mirror caps on my R wrapped in carbon. I couldn't track down a specific thread.
Does anyone know of anyone good in Melbourne?

            • New exhaust

I have always wished my Golf R had the cracks, pops and crackle that you get in the likes of the AMG A45 and the new focus RS so in a rage of insanity of lashed out and bought a Innotech (IPE) valvetronic exhaust system for my R. The valvetronic allows you to have it with valves closed (stockish) or open (snap, crackle pop) or auto which is basically bi modal. Attached are a few pics (has titanium tips). Sounds unbelievable with valves open and sounds stock when shut. The fart on upshift with valves open I think rivals a lambo at full tilt

How much did the system cost you? Any chance of getting some audio?

Ouch but sounds like fun. I'll have to follow you at QR with my windows down as I also miss the pops and bangs from the RS (makes me LOL every time I'm in my mate's).

                      • Makes the RS sound like a mouse, valves open it booms, I think the tune and intake help with the extra crackle too. I am like a little kid accelerating and backing off all the time to hear it crackle and pop, fuel bill will be up for sure

                          • I'm thinking of fitting the Flow Designs splitters to stop the paint rash from speed bumps and kerbs.

Does anyone have any experience with fitting them?

Also, do I buy the complete set and for front, side and rear? What are your thoughts cosmetically?

I have the front and V1 sides. Looks good. Wasn't so keen on the rear after seeing in person .

For the front bar, take it off or jack up at the front. Have 2/3 people and whilst one holds in place the other person drills the holes. Can use tape to help in holding in place as well. Then outside 2 screws in and easy from there.
For the sides jack up and pull the skirt away slightly(kind of pops out/in) as it will give your fingers some room and again someone to hold in place and drill etc.
Here is 2 photos of mine. The sides you can get them to hang out as much as you want.

                              • Hey sekas,

That's great feedback. I agree on the rear set and having not seen them first hand I was unsure of the styling. The fact that you haven't fitted them was the evidence I was looking for.

I think I'll proceed with the front and sides.
