  • Picked up the R just before Christmas done 150 K so far pretty darn impressive a technological tour de force. Keep setting the drive mode to RACE and flicking the gear selector back to D love that exhaust note. Ride also high quality given the 19 inch wheels. I will have a decent drive later this week for more feedback.

Just one minor gremlin I noticed a slight vibration on bumpy roads sounded like it was coming from the steering wheel instrument cluster turned out to be the driver side sun visor above my head, in the closed position bouncing intermittently (hard plastic mirror cover touching the small light cover). The passenger side did not have a problem so will get it checked at 1500 K check some adhesive felt is a fix in the interim.

Hey rosslm, I have the exact same vibration! It is definitely the driver side sun visor. Mine even vibrates when I close the doors. The sound makes it feel a bit cheap. I'm going to try and put something between the sun visor and the roof to stop the vibration when I get back from holidays next week. I reckon the visor would be vibrating against either the light fixture or something to do with the visors connecting arm.

Before I do any adjustments, has anyone else had this problem? And has anyone been able to stop the rattling?

        Thanks!

I have the exact same thing on my MY16 GTI. You can hear the mirror cover hit the lamp cover when you close the visor, but it doesn't happen on the passenger side.

I took it in to the dealer last week to fix a sunroof creak and the visor vibration and they said they fixed it but it's exactly the same, so not sure what they actually did! It's going back in tomorrow to replace some brackets on the sunroof which they had to order so I'll get them to look at it again and report back.

After a minor hassle at the dealership (they told me the part was accidentally sold to someone else 3 weeks ago after letting me wait1.5 hours .....after some tooing and froing they reluctantly took one off a new vehicle) with the new visor fitted, to be honest, im not convinced its any better !!!
Looks like ill be doing my own fix.

              • Had the same problem with my mk7 R, told the dealer at first service and they were going to order in part and let me know. That was a year ago, I am sure you are surprised. I just stuck a piece of paper between where the light is under the visor which does the trick.

                • I had the same and the dealer said it was a known fault and they fixed it. It started to happen again for me a few weeks after they fixed it and I pushed on the light behind the visor and it solved the issue. It's a problem with the light hitting the hard plastic mirror cover so pushing it up a little puts some space between the two it seems
Just sold my Mk6 Golf Comfortline Sport... Waiting for my 2015 Lapiz Blue Golf R with sunroof, DAP2 and leather to arrive

Nice wheels on the Wolfsburg... Did you go for one with the "carbon" leather? If so, how is it?

                        • I have covered 800km all going well car is a revelation, impressed by the build and engineering seems well put together no rattles apart from the previously mentioned drivers sun visor. It rides well even on secondary roads in 'Comfort' setting compares well with my previous MK6 in 'normal' DCC mode. Washed the car yesterday and noticed this on my front left tyre looks like a nail breezed the edge of the tyre yet didn't touch the rim $400 for a new one has me puzzled how it occured can't remember hitting anything. Anyone else seen this kind of damage without impacting anything.Click image for larger version

The only options in a Wolfsburg are 1. Wagon or hatch, 2. Sunroof or not, 3. oryx white, limestone gray or lapiz blue. So they all get the carbon style seats.

Ah I c... how do they feel compared to the standard leather, if you've had a chance to compare them? I found the standard leather ok, but nothing special. In the pics the carbon looks very nice...

Not similar but I've had 3 punctures in the last 15 months compared to 0 in 6 years in our previous car. Nails love em!
