So I picked up my new R yesterday.
What I love :
- The colour. I was worried that white would be a bit boring, but it's not - it's wonderful.
- The build quality. Wow, how far things have come since the Mk5. Everything is superbly put together, wonderful ergos.
- The seats. Very comfortable, but not supportive enough for track work. This is good, this is my daily drive.
- The engine. Wonderfully smooth and gone are so many of the quirks of the EA113 platform. Very nicely laid out engine bay.
- The colour MFD. Not only is it in colour, but it has wonderful animated menus.
- LED interior lighting, as well as some blue LED mood lighting strips. Oooh..
- Keyless entry system works wonderfully. I'm going to really like using this system.
- It truly is Luxury Class, yet it is 100% Volkswagen as well. This trait, I like the most.
What I don't love so much :
- Compared to my worked Mk5 pirelli, it's gutless. This can be fixed, of course.
- The wheels are disgusting, although they actually do defy logic and offer a pretty good ride. But they are disgusting...
- The Sat Nav is rubbish, but the sound quality is actually very good.
- Soundaktor... I mean WTF... If I wanted a WRX sound I would have bought a WRX! Soon to code out, so no biggee.
What I'm not sure about yet :
- The manual transmission. It's really good, nice progressive/soft clutch and super smooth synchro. Not sure if I'll miss my old DSG though, as I do drive a lot in city traffic. So far though, I love it.
I brought the car home yesterday, and I've spent most of today detailing it and connecting a quick-connector for my CTEK charger. The dealer only gave it a quick wash so the surface was quite 'gritty' from transportation etc, so I gave it a claybar treatment followed by a polish/wax. Even though it's white, it shines wonderfully.
The first mod to be done is to remove those disgusting wheels and put on some 18" VW motorsport wheels (Gloss black, FTW!).. No doubt I'll get it tuned at some point in the near future as well. After that who knows.
Some photos for you chaps... Clicky if you want bigger images.

From some angles, the 7R looks so aggressive - I think the most for me is getting out of the front seats looking towards the rear of the car and seeing the flared wheel arches.
But then sometimes like in your fifth picture, well, it looks like a Golf

Very nice kryten. Glad to see you went with the manual. Mine gets here in 8 weeks.
I'd be interested to hear your thoughts on the car with 18s. Anyone who knows me will recall I am very anti - large wheels. My wife's car is going from 20" to 17" this week woo hoo.
Jonoz, if they had just not bothered with those horizontal bars across the middle of the outer 'air intakes' it would look much better from the front.
I might even chuck some black electrical tape on mine lolLooking for:- RS4 B7 Avant.
Current:- Amarok V6 Sportline; Mazda CX-9 Azami AWD
Previous - Mk 6 R manual; Mk 7 R manual; Passat 130 TDi Wagon. Mk 7.5 Wolfsburg Wagon.

Funny, I hear that from a few people... Good thing I didn't buy it for them eh? I've always liked dash mats. They soften the interior somewhat.Originally posted by Mountainman View PostThat dash mat doesn't enhance the interior presentation of your R's interior kryten2001. In fact it trashes it.

Picked up my new fully loaded Lapiz blue R, last Wednesday and very happy.
I was under the impression the factory leather seats were suppose to be the carbon look type, mine are just plain (as previous mk6 gti) but with R logo. Anyone else experience this ?Sold - CW Mk6 MY12 GTI 5 Door DSG, Sunroof, Leather, RNS510, MDI, Tints, Lakin plate holders, BT & RVC, projected 'GTI' door lights
Current - Lapiz blue mk7 Golf R DSG fully optioned.

Also, my rear seat passengers tell me its quite 'drony' in the back seat (as compared to sitting in the front). Can someone tell me Is this the norm?Sold - CW Mk6 MY12 GTI 5 Door DSG, Sunroof, Leather, RNS510, MDI, Tints, Lakin plate holders, BT & RVC, projected 'GTI' door lights
Current - Lapiz blue mk7 Golf R DSG fully optioned.

That sounds about right.... I've seen a few and they are all plain black. Pretty good quality, but i would recommend leather treatments at least once every 6 months.. Get the mothers/meguairs diy stuff, very easy to keep it in top shape.Originally posted by jacs View PostPicked up my new fully loaded Lapiz blue R, last Wednesday and very happy.
