Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

At night the low beam is already turned on, so using high beam (at night) is not an issue in terms of the start up stuffs.

Bixenon high beam uses the same hid bulbs (as low beam) but they have mechanism inside the lens to flip the beam up for high beam. And this I love it for driving at night

Sure has! The only halogen bulb in mine is for the static cornering light.

When I tried mine this arv with flashing the Bi-xenon is doing the flashing on high beam.

No, 135i coupe, not m135i hatch, which has a front end so ugly that I have completely ruled it out.

          • If you're looking at the A45, have you considered the successor to the 135i, the 235i?

Unlike the 135i I think it's a very handsome car.

I want a 4 door for the kids, otherwise I would look at the 235i. If they graft the front of the 2 to the 1 for LCI the. It could be a winner.

              • Good comparison - as you said (and impression I get), the Audi/Golf R are well made but rather "bland". Merc certainly has "wow" factor, but I'd imagine would be rather uncomfortable day-to-day. And June next year delivery is ridiculous.
I am seriously considering Skoda RS as my next car - same platform (new MQB) and engine/drivetrain as new Golf GTI , but huge amount of space and from all reports almost as good otherwise as VW (although probably not up to Audi interior quality). In fact I think it has more "character", both from exterior looks point of view and with some things that are unique to it (like sports seats). Definitely better value as comes with everything from variable ratio steering to ride control adjustment and even "sports-mode" piped sound. Even has 8" Columbus Satnav/media system!
Down side obviously is some negative stigma attached to Skoda brand and consequent lower resale value - but what you save in driveaway price would probably compensate. Only other thing is I believe there's a bit of a waiting list on these as well as series 3 only just being released (but probably only a few months at worst?!).....
                Food for thought :p

                  • Has anyone looked into a front lip for the MK7 R?
My R is due for delivery in around two weeks and I'm keen to get something put on to give the front end to offer some protection. The area I live in has some seriously angled roads between streets and main roads and while I have quite a bit of experience driving a low car but the Missus is used to driving a forrester. Even being careful there are some spots that you just cant avoid scraping in some spots.

Ideally I want to put a carbon fibre front lip on but can't find any available for the MK7 R yet. I have found this cheap option on ebay that I was thinking of putting on as an interim solution but still I am not keen on drilling holes for this and then redrilling for a proper lip in the future.

                    Cheers,

                    • You want to attach a lip to the front bumper so it is lower and more prone to getting damaged?????

Good point but it only really comes into play on the really steep driveways and when the driver(s) aren't careful. The front lip I linked costs $34 and I'm much keener on that getting a scrape than the front bumper itself

Thanks Dutch, that looks like a better option in terms of no screw holes for a temp solution. Only concern is how easy it is to remove. Will so some googling

                            • So I guess i'll answer the following question myself when I test drive the R and GTI PP back to back tomorrow. However, I have been reading a lot of comments comparing the two cars, and I'm particularly concerned about the apparent 'firmness' of the ride and the associated noise/vibration/harshness of the R compared to the GTIPP. I don't have any intentions to take the car to a track or do anything like that, so for everyday use on our terrible Adelaide roads I'm wondering what everyone's thoughts/opinions are in relation to just the ride quality, firmness and the NVH between the two cars. Is the R as harsh as what some people are saying?

Hi I would say it depends on what mode you adjust your car on, I have the Golf r and I like to keep it in normal mode, I don't feel it too firm, I came from a CLA with the run flat tires that are pretty stiff my other car is a Scirocco and I keep it in confort mode, so there isn't much difference between the Scirocco ant the Golf R however, you can always adjust the Golf R in confort mode, but I don't like the feeling in the acceleration that is why I keep it on normal mode, or even better you can adjust it on Individual mode where you can change the noise of the car the suspension and other things very cool mode.
The Golf R is the kind of car that can put a smile on your face I would go for the Golf R instead of the GTI pp if I had too choose one of the two, but that's just me try them both and see what are your needs, that should give you a better answer.
