Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

When I placed my order I was told that there were some cars available now but all had leather trim plus other options that I did not want meaning that the car had to be ordered hence the waiting time. is anyone else here having to endure a long wait for a standard DSG R?
In this case the dealer is telling the truth.

The initial boatload was optioned up DSG Rs. Basic and manual versions won't be arriving till the second half of the year, so potentially a manual buyer has been waiting a long time for their car.

As I understand it, the initial allocation of Australian R's were predominantly the 'popular' colours, and with either all three options or just some options. There were some stock standard R's, but those who ordered early with a deposit were given preference. Their rationale was those people who purchase the R's as soon as they could be purchased, were going to be enthusiasts or at least customers who would want all the options. I guess it also the reason we are reading some stories of people not getting a 'good price/deal', when the demand is great, and the supply is not, the suppliers will tend to have the upper hand

Not sure if this is the one you found, but I have been eying off one from the UK on ebay.

Also it just jangles around and bumps into the steering column or facia which is annoying.

                • If you have Push Start button, I'd recommend a pouch like this. Keeps the key from getting scratched too.

                  • Mine is standard and when my dealer searched for white standard cars last week there were at least ten in the system or with other dealers. So all optioned up is a myth.

                      • When i was looking at what stock was available yesterday with the dealer, the recent boatload of cars that came in (29th April) only had about 10 (or less) R's on there. Not sure if this was purely a Victorian allocation, but not many. Most of them had some form of options already installed, so if you are after a manual with no factory options, then you may be on the next boat or the one after.
So could be a few months away.

Also heard that manual ones were not being manufactured for Australian market until June/July, but that could be just rumours.

                        Cheers,

                        B

                        • So, my dilemma is do I sell my mkvi R now for about 36k (seems to be the going rate for my kms/spec) and cough up another 25k difference to grab a similarly spec'd mkvii, or do I spend a few thousand for a stage 2 on my existing (now that I'm out of warranty happy to do that) and get pretty much the same performance, keep the lovely dynaudio and continue to drive a car that still makes me smile every day?
Clearly I'd love a shiny new car with the new tech, but 25k is a lot for a few bells and whistles, and slightly more conservative styling (IMO)?

                          • Long time since I have been around here. So, what is the going price people are paying for the Golf R and is there one of those spreadsheets floating around here where we can work out our discounts? I remember using one a few years ago on this forum.

I went and looked at the Golf R today - no test drive but was offered this.

Golf R, White, DSG, leather = Drive away $58k.

Not sure if this is a good deal as I will shop around a little more.

I think the new S3 ****s all over the Golf r personally - however need to justify the S3 is circa $11k better than the R?

                            • Can someone provide a critique of the stock sound system in the R? Hopefully from someone who knows what a good car audio system sounds like.

Wondering if I'm going to have to go for a full system replacement or just add a discreet amp/sub for the missing low-end.

Yep, my dealer had a standard white R on the floor last Saturday.
