  • What "STANDARDS" do you expect on Golf GTI MK VII?

Led daytime running lights at least.. for God"s sake they run on "Kia" cars!!!
Golf 90TSI MY12, DSG, Candy white, Denver alloys, Pirelli P1 cinturato, RCD 510, R-dash led licence plate lights, 35/40% tinted windows, GTI OEM tail lights, fog lights, Etuners stage 1, chrome exhaust tips.

I'd expect the Mk7 to retain a friendly balance between ride & handling, and an increase in power or acceleration, while reducing weight, fuel consumption and emissions at the same time.

What I'd like to see though, is a better balance between involvement and refinement. I felt the drive has become a bit too isolating for a GTI.

An improvement in mechanical and electrical reliability would be nice as well.

Touch screen HU, MDI (without taking up half the console space or being unreachable in the glovebox), and bluetooth.
Maybe even a reversing camera standard (would be possible if the standard HU is touch screen).
Some say he was the Stig... all we know is that he drives a VW Transporter.

Don't shortchange us on the options list. Yes I'm talking to you veedubaustralia!!

And please don't make us wait 9 months for the car after ordering.

One possible way might be to have just 1 or 2 trims. A basic and fully loaded perhaps. VW Asia has just one trim per car. So all you choose is color. And everything else is custom ordered. I'd expect the following in the high spec model: satnav, bixenon, cornering lights, adaptive suspension, power mirror closing and opening, Dynaudio and reverse camera.

You can't have both.... You either have a few trim levels and regular stock. Or a plethora of options and a huge wait list.

VW already provide trim levels... Trendline, Comfortline etc

You missed out the second bit. And those trim levels are IMHO still too basic and for different models

Maybe it's the enthusiast market but I find that it seems like everyone is waiting for cars. Especially when it's first launched. So it looks like we aren't buying bog standard models.

Plus they may get a better deal from HQ when they do bulk orders of a single high spec config that numerous personalized ones.

I must say, that with the Euro depreciating some 30% or so in the last 18 mths yet little or no adjustment from VW Australia (at least BMW have done something by giving lots more equipment and some price drops on 3 series models), shouldn't we either get a large price reduction(wishful thinking) or a fully loaded car (which does not cost VW the full notional value anyway)..

VW, as are all Euro car makers, are making killer margins atm with the Euro/AUD exchange rate and with the ongoing problems of Spain, Greece, Portugal to name a few, the AUD/Euro will probably be parity when the Mk7 arrives. Imagine a GTI with leather, keyless, DRL for $30k AUD (price in Germany was 30,000 Euro when I went last month). mmmmmmmmm

some price revision is required, its a bit silly what a gti can cost fully loaded.

I do like the idea of say three trim levels, while they have that for standard golf. similar idea for the gti would be great.

maybe bare sports, luxo with leather sunroof. and a fully loaded version with the lot ! (no one will buy it with the silly price ! )

could the sunroof be a panoramic variety ? the merc a250 looks like gets one

reversing sensors has to be thrown standard as with multimedia / ipod capability in this day age. shouldnt be an extra cost option.

dab+ come on vw are doing it standard across the range from 2013 over in europe. why shouldnt we get that here !
                      Once had a Red mk6 GTI + DSG + leather + sunroof + mdi + towbar

now have a gorgeous Red Merc A250 AMG Sport

Or we could always retrofit again at our own leisure. Sunroof's aren't for me so I'd hate to be forced to spend $2000 on one to get some other options on the same tier.

I never understood this idea of retrofitting sunroofs. Isn't it a problem with structural integrity of the car?

And the chance of water leakage is too worrying for me

sunroofs are the biggest ripoff in automotive retail. If you want wind in your hair, get a roadster.

lol I meant retrofitting other things, not sunroofs.
