Honda lost the plot. The Accord is about the only half-decent looking car in their whole line-up. The Civic is horrible.

Subaru is not far behind (the Forester, XV crossover, and the STI Impreza are okay - specifically the STI though, not the standard WRX) - what is that horrible Liberty minivan thing they're flogging - man that is horrible!!

It just seems that the Jap manufacturers have lost the idea of "proportions". They've started making these huge bulbous plasticky cars with giant headlights, big bulging panels, and small wheels. It really is a shame because they used to make really smart looking, well proportioned cars.
agree 100% where I did look at some japanese cars in past as contenders cant see literally anything there, nissan got nothing in the golf class even the SSS just cant match, toyota and lexus ergh theres definitely looks only a mother can love. and subaru apart from the XV the rest look pretty bad to me. the japanese have lost the plot in styling.

I can't really have a comeback to that, especially when the car park only has three cars of note, my GTI, a WRX and what isn't a bad looking black VE Calais V riding on 20s - it just needs anything but the stock exhaust to unlock that note.

Fortunately the client base does hold more I interest, and while the 458 Italia isn't bad, I always like to sneak a look at a the couple of GTIs that rock up.. and while I haven't seen it in a long time there was a mint R32 that always had me perving.

Definately only a competitor for the new TSI engined Golf 7's however, as you will see in my previous post (ie the one you quoted) I only said to try the DS4 to see how the insides and build quality was like. Not as a driving experience. For that matter, just sitting in it at the showroom would be enough.

I was told that Benz only have two services on the A250, an A service and a B service. A is cheaper around $400, and averaged around $1200 for both, so that would make the B around the $800.

This is where A250 is gaining my interest, it is fully loaded - stock, no need to pay for extras -e.g. a short list of standard items that aren't standard on the GTI (that I know of):
18" alloys, bi-xenons, LED front and rear lights, panoramic sunroof, alarm, park assist, folding side mirrors, reversing camera, ambiance lighting (including sill protectors that light up - is that a joke?).

Haven't done the calculations, but adding a pana roof and bi-xeons to GTI alone would go close or more?

didnt hear about an A or B service, just the around $400 a service and told $1200 over the 3 years. this was for lease purposes as need to budget for that, but turned out my companies corporate program gets me free servicing on mercs for life of the lease. So not something bothered to look into any further sorry

no worries, launch is 22nd of Feb up here, so I will be going. Have already booked a test drive. But have been told all existing stocks that will be released in March have been sold, and might be lucky to even get one by June! Sounds remarkably like VW

                        • All the accountants I know drive BMWs. It's my fellow engineers who drive boring cars.

Some look at a VW and see bland. I see well proportioned, clean lines, svelte design. Most people I know in the design industry agree (industrial designers,, architect's, my fellow engineers etc). Although I have to say, the glory days for VW design are with the split screen kombi, early beetles, and the Karmann Ghia.

                          Each to their own.

I also like the standard dinamica interior that comes standard on the a250 much better than the jackie tarton interior on the gti meaning dont need to pony up for leather as I had to on my gti

                              • Of course there is the new Kia Pro Cee'd (stupid name), the same 1600cc engine as the veloster. As Kia spokesman said the brand was “investigating getting the car at the earliest possible opportunity”.
“There's no doubt the Pro-Cee'd would provide a hero car for Australia”

A hero car? Hmmm, maybe I should wait a bit longer
