still not convinced, especially the rear - looks like a previous model corolla with a cheap body kit bolted on. And what's with the extruded mesh in the lower front section, couldn't they afford anything else? Stands out like a povo pack model. And the side panels/doors have Hyundai pressed all over them. And what's with the red speed stripes in the lower front and rear sections? Looks very odd IMO, even more so than it does in the GTI.

But then again, the golf possibly could do with a tad more flair?
(removed red mk6 images to avoid confusion, thanks for pic of red mk7 alebonau)

Sure, more dollars but reliability a given, classy, looks actually good (as opposed to the bland Golf), fresh styling.

Best of all, not a peasants car. VW have failed to raise their game - same old boring bland and tired tech (and weak DSG)

I'm sold (but am looking at the AMG personally).
yep I agree golf has gone a bit bland. dollars wise nothing in it a250 vs equivalent specd gti. something like the amg a45 will be lot lot more expensive but thats in a whole another league of a car would think.

      definitely stuff competition...

looks will always be down to personal preference, ofcourse something you like others wont. not sure what your posting pics of a mk6 golf about. we're comparing to the mk7 gti. as I said before I would rather keep my mk6 gti then get a mk7 not convinced mk7 is worth updating to. unless your suggesting the same.

yep, sorry should have pointed that out, am suggesting the same - couldn't find a similar red mk7, and basically mk6, mk7 no big difference styling wise IMO.

            • Had an uncle that owned one, his fault I'm driving Vw's today. It was the ducks in those days for sure.

              • The reports from overseas on the A Class haven't been totally positive. They focus on the poor handling/ride compromise. The ride is appalling in all models apparently and gets worse as you move to the sportier models.

We fortunately don't get the run flats on the a250 as they do. I despise run flats for their rough ride. Always have. But yeah with any car best to check out to get a feel though

                  • Seems there's a sus upgrade for the Sport though: AMG Sport cars also get thicker anti-roll bars, stiffer springs, firmer dampers, variable rate steering and uprated brake discs. The result is a fine handling car. Chuck it into a corner quickly and the car remains almost flat, and you have to try very hard to get the front end to run out of grip.*

All this means you can fling the A250 AMG Sport around a twisty road with great confidence, although there is a trade-off over the standard car in terms of comfort, as the ride can get quite bumpy on broken surfaces.*

If you can cope with an even firmer ride still, for an extra £1,920 you can opt for the ‘Engineered by AMG’ version of the A250, which takes the handling up another notch with an even more aggressive chassis set-up. This car is identified by its unique pin-style grille and red brake calipers

doing a bit more research it seems Australia is only getting the "Engineered by AMG' a250 which is the upsec model and costs $49,900, no standard a250 sport. But got to admit it does have a lot of standard features for not a whole lot more $$$ than a stock GTI. Biggest problem seems that it only goes a tad quicker than the GTI (but 'feels' slower) and you have to put up with a hard ride that would be forgiven in a more focused setup.

And no manual option for those that wish to have one (even in Europe).

                              - class leading chassis balance - this wont likely matter - when talking "performance" models, who really cares about drivers these days, when the cars are going to be purchased by far more grocery-getters?
                              - feel, feedback. nimble. fun to drive.
The Suzuki Swift Sport is an absolute drivers car. The only thing that lets it down are the seats -bloody uncomfortable for an average sized aussie bloke. If they had better seat I would never own a Golf or Polo GTI.

So yeah, if VW could improve the golf in the areas you have mentioned, it would be an absolute bloody classic.
