  • Golf R 7.5 - Replace Rear Door Window

The car is a 20MY Golf R 7.5 (RHD). Some low life decided to smash the rear passenger door window (RHD). The car was parked in a residential secure car park and the rear door window was smashed. As the only thing taken was the carpark door access remote, we assume someone got into the car park and then could not get out so broke into the car to get the carpark remote in the car.

So are there any special tricks for removing the door card to get access to the window mechanism inside or is it the same as most cars in that just remove anything screwed to the door frame and then carefully pop the card and its plastic retainers?

Secondly, when installing the new window is the glass held to the lifting mechanism by glue/sealant in a channel at the bottom or is it retained by some other means.

    Thanks

    Garry

There are several screws and multiple plastic clips that hold the door panel on. You will need a Torx (either T20 or T25 from memory) bit and some plastic trim removal tools.

The glass will slide into a channel and then there are clamps that hold onto the glass. No glue/sealant required.

Thanks for that - in the end we had a new glass professionally fitted - was not much more than the price of the privacy glass and they cleaned all the broken glass out of the inside of the car.

      Cheers
