  • Golf R 7.5 - Remove Internal Rear View Mirror Housing - DashCam

The vehicle is a 20MY Golf 7.5R and I need to install a fitted dashcam in front of the internal rear vision mirror. I can see the joins in the current housing but am not sure where to insert the plastic tools to prise the housing off. Can someone recommend a video or advise how it is done. I have come across a few videos but they are all for other Golf models.

    Thanks

Hi Don, while it is closest to the first it is not the same as either of your diagrams. It does not have that long neck in the first pic but a wide assembly with the mirror similar to the first - see my pics Click image for larger version

Garry: Hmm.......... OK. My second picture applies to "the Interior Rear-view Mirror with Automatic Dimming, with Rain/Light Recognition Sensor and Driver Assistance Systems (i.e. Front Camera)".

I'm not sure from your photos - but I suspect that this car DOES have the driver assist systems. Anyhow, it may be that this is a newer version?

This is what the repair manual says (where the car has the driver assist front camera):
            Removing
            – Unclip front cover -1- from front interior light -W1- and pull it downwards by approx.10 mm -arrows A-.
            – Release locking lugs -3- using as small screwdriver.
            – Pull front cover -1- towards front off front interior light -W1- and retaining plate -arrow B- and remove it.
            – Remove rear cover -2- towards rear
            .

            – Turn interior mirror -2- anti-clockwise by 20° -arrow- using a 13 mm open-end spanner -3- and remove it downwards off retaining plate -1-.

Thanks Don, but that is not for my vehicle - different to my pics.

PS - finally found a Youtube vid which shows my arrangement.
