Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • How to make a TDI louder

Hey guys, I'm new to this forum,
I have a mk7 2.0tdi I was just wondering if anyone has any knowledge on how to make my TDI louder or if its able to make flutter.

    Thank you

Its not really the right car for loud noises and fluttering. All the emissions garbage on modern diesels makes this harder than it used to be. You really need to remove the DPF (diesel particulate filter) and mufflers if you want some noise from the exhaust and you might also get some turbo spool noises like some of the modified ute's have. But removing the DPF on a Mk7 Golf is not exactly cheap or easy (you need a new downpipe with the DPF removed, and a ECU tune which has the DPF info disabled). Also removing the DPF is technically illegal because you are messing with the emissions - so just bear that in mind incase you get pulled over.

Removing the EGR and fitting an air intake system will also help.

Perhaps go see Zadtec Tuning in Brookvale who are resellers for Celtic tuning who can do the ECU tuning you will need, and Zadtec also do some nice exhaust work so they can more than likely sort out your DPF removal at the same time.

      Swap in a petrol engine

Performance diesels dont make noises. Even a straight through exhaust make the same noise as standard one. If they were supposed to sound good, they'd be in Formula 1
