Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Rear Dash Cam - Golf R 7.5

I have a front and rear dash cam to go into my Golf R 7.5. Installation of the front cam is straight forward and covered in the instructions, however it just says to run the cable for the rear cam under the roof lining and gives no other detail.

I have had a look at the headling and it does not look easy to just lift up at the edges - around the windscreen and then back to the rear.

Has anyone ran a cable for a rear dash cam from the front to the rear and what issues need to be addressed.

    Thanks

Ok as one who has installed several dash cams in VW'S this is what I would do . I ALWAYS run the cable to the rear along the carpet on the floor . WHY because the cars have side airbags in the roof and you cant get in behind them to run the wire. If you only run it in front of the bag you risk getting strangled if the bags go off. Also running it up the pillar make sure its behind the bag as well Instruction link below. Once you get wire to the rear pull the door seal off and tuck it in behind right up to the roof and along to the wiggle connector. Ease that off by gently levering it from the inside and it will come down and off Had a lip on that end and a bigger one on other end Put a wire down through it from taildoor end and wrap the connector in tape and work it up into the door you can just pull enough out to reach the camera and pull rest back inside the door. You need to remove the top half of the taildoor trim to do this

Miss step 6 7 and 8 and do it my way. Took me an hour and a half to do the Tiguan and the Kamiq my way and i know its safe and secure.
Be sure to run wires BEHIND Airbag down the A pillar and dont tuck stuff in until you have the length right or you will end up with too much at the screens. Dont ask how I know LOL

Sorry its so long you need either a trim tool or a big long heavy screwdriver to get the trim off I have these but i got mine on Ali Express for half that I also bought a packet of the trim pins Got a packet of 50 assorted as come in handy if you break one Just be sure to set them correctly before replacing the trim or they snap off https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005...Cquery_from%3A
