Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Car paint repair for navy MK7 Golf TSI

Apologies if this has been discussed already, I did a quick search in the forum and couldn't find what I was looking for.

Anyway the front left corner of the car's bumper has some scratches basically drove into a wooden post. Just wondering where do you all source your car paint from? I have the paint code found on the side passenger label H7H7 (navy). watching this YouTube video appears I could probably have a go at this myself How to Repair Scratches on your Car | Save Hundreds of Dollars but will need other materials as well as the paint itself, such as the body fille, sand paper and other sponges etc.

As someone who has tried this myself several times in my younger years - you will never achieve a good result using a DIY method, especially so without experience. I would highly recommend you have it repaired properly by a body shop.

But if you want to have a go at it yourself, id order the colour and a can of 2k clear coat from VG Paints in Sydney. Car Paint Sydney | Spray Cans | VG Auto Paints

Thanks for the heads up. Maybe I’ll do a small spot first and see how bad it turns out

Go to the wreakers and pick up a cheap car bumper, practice on that first to get a hang of what you are doing.
Trust me the practice you gain will determine if you want to DIY or totally "F" it up.

          Good point.

Also if anyone has any Melb based stores to buy car paint materials in south east that’d also be good

Not sure where you based but if in Sydney can recommend Pro Auto Repairs for this sort of work. Is a mobile service using proper spray painting gear, with flawless results. About $300 last time I used them.
