Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

but you guys are trying to tell me its stupid to say doing and oil change at 15 - 20,000km within 12 months when the original post is asking if 6month 5,000km is too short?

if your getting oil serviced on schedule from VW / warranty - 15,000 - 12 months then you dont really have to worry about your warranty being written off do you?

but if your warranty has lapsed or you have a 2nd hand car then its safe to change your oil every 15 - 20k or every couple years.

as for PETEMAC. if youre worried about moisture in your engine then id say you have bigger problem (seals, gaskets, leaks) than the oil in your car or i recommend not diluting your oil with water

    cheers
Incorrect VW recommend in Australia to do it at 15000km or 12mths WHICHEVER COMES FIRST

So if you do 30,000 a year will be done twice.

If you do like me 4000 a year it will get done annually.

Some people do have trouble reading the Manual it seems.

hmmm........I do enjoy a passionate discourse (it's far too rare on this forum IMHO)!!!

At the risk of the moderator deleting this response as well - let's not be too dogmatic about the ubiquitous "15,000 kms/12 month" metrics for oil service intervals on mk7s!!!

As I previously indicated, the decision to either keep, or to change the manufacturer's recommended service intervals is a risk management choice - meaning that within reasonable limits, there will be no inevitable bad consequences if the intervals are extended! And there will be a cost saving for the car owner for extending the service interval

So and again within reasonable limits - these decisions are simply personal value judgements and everyone will have a different (and a valid) value proposition for their ultimate decision)

Also, let's not forget that since the year 2000, both Audi and Volkswagen has officially allowed service interval extension for up to 2 years or for a maximum of 30,000 km for petrol engines (and for up to 50,000 km for certain diesel engines) if the car has the PR number “QG1“.

      Don

PS: PR number “QG1“= Service interval extension = LongLife Service

Please don't PM to ask questions about coding, or vehicle repairs. The better place to deal with these matters is in the forum proper. That way you get the benefit of the wider expertise of other forum members! Thank you.

Guess I wasn't as wrong as the VWWC forum Professional Mechs and Techs thought I was.

I think they deserve to be banned for spreading misinformation, harrassment, slander and character attacks.
