Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Shift dip and subsequent surge

    Hi all,

I'm an owner of a 2018 Golf R with a 7 speed DSG; stock but for a K&N panel air intake.

Do note that this is my first DSG vehicle, so I'm not necessarily well versed in terms of how they operate; nevertheless, I'm learning!

When in sport shift mode, and when applying full throttle from 1st gear (no launch control), upon changing to 2nd gear; I notice a dip in power (the car physically dips forward slightly) followed by a subsequent surge in power. This dip may only last at maximum 1/2 of a second.

This only occurs from 1st to 2nd; from experience, is this a common occurrence or is something not operating as it should on my car? Thank you!

Is that with the stock tune?

I had a similar issue with my 2016 R bouncing off the redline in sports mode 1st to 2nd, turns out the APR tune needed an update.. After that it shifts perfectly.

Also worth running a VCDS scan to see if anythings up
    2016 Golf R, APR Stage 1
2010 Polo GTI 9n3, 4 Program APR Tune, PD160, White line front and rear sway bar

Thanks for your reply mate, much appreciated.

That's interesting to hear; I'll definitely look into that.

The car is on a stock tune, never been tinkered with.
