  • Any reason to avoid an MY14 Golf R?

Found a few early MK7 R's that I'm interested in. Besides turbo failures, which should have been covered under warranty is there anything that I should consider over a later MY16/17 one?

Plan is to go Stage 2+ and upgrade the radio to a MIB2.5 unit.

Might be cheaper to find a MY15 with the updated and slightly larger stereo and revised turbo. The turbos in the MY14's were hit and miss, but im sure there are lots of cars running around with the original turbo.

A friend of mine bought a MY14 brand new, had it tuned to stage 1 within about 6 months, and then stage 2 a few months later. Stock turbo was fine. He sold it about a year ago with 120,000km on it, still on the stock turbo - its a lottery.

    Whats your budget?

Budget is $30k but have a feeling I will need to stretch a bit further to find a decent example, given prices are creeping up again. $35k seems to be the sweet spot for decent examples nowadays.

Missed out on two MY16's that I was eyeing. One was a loaded Wolfsburg. Gutted.

Anything that is low to average kms and non inflated pricing gets snapped up right away. Will need to compromise on something I think.
