There are calculators online. I remember a spreadsheet which had different engines listed (4 cylinder, 6 cylinder etc) and then what volume helmholtz you needed to reduce drone at specific RPM. I was going to get 2x of them fitted to my Lexus IS-F V8 a few years back, as after fitting an aftermarket exhaust, i had terrible drone at about 2,000rpm. In the end I decided to swap the rear mufflers for a larger Xforce ones with the Varex motors which managed to greatly reduce the drone so I never ended up going doing the helmholtz path.
