Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. • Light Assist with Halogen Lights

    Hi Everyone,

I'd like to explore the possibility of configuring/coding Light Assist/HBA on my Golf Comfortline which comes with halogen headlamps. It does have the DA package though. Currently I can see "light assist during rain" as an option.

    Any thoughts?

You might get High beam assist(Auto dimming) but dont think you can get DLA with halogens

Hi Hillbilly... Always to the rescue!

I meant Light Assist (HBA). I'm aware DLA works only with the LED headlamps & AFS.

What would be the coding for LA/HBA? I've seen several codings available but they mention to select bi-xenon with shutters installed & I dont have xenon headlamps but halogens

What are you using to code it There is an App in OBDeleven to do it that seems to work

          Hi,

I'm using VCDS to perform the coding.

Here's the sample coding: Finally Got High Beam Assist (Light Assist) Working - GOLFMK7 - VW GTI MKVII Forum / VW Golf R Forum / VW Golf MKVII Forum

nibose: Not sure that I really understand what you are asking -but you may be referring to AFS, (Advanced Frontlighting System)-dynamic cornering light. High bean Assist - which is the system whereby the front facing camera detects an on-oncoming vehicle and then modulates the high-beam function needs special equipment (a front facing camera for starters).

Even true AFS is not possible with standard OEM Halogen fittings - this is only possible with some HID assemblies. But - it is possible to implement a form of ASF called Static AFS with Halogen fittings. But you need front fog lights - does your car have these?

Static AFS is where the fog light on the side of the car where it's turning is switched-on. Is this what you mean?

THat seems to be a Canadian site May not work here but look familiar

Gor here and look for the HBA coding in Mk7 guides

                I'm asking for High-Beam-Assist or Light-Assist, NOT Dynamic-Light-Assist.

My headlamps are halogens and there's no AFS. I do not intend to have AFS either for that's not possible with the current setup.

@ HillBilly: I cant seem to find HBA coding in the link

It might short cut things if we forget the acronyms, what do you want to do, is it dipping the lights automatically depending on the traffic conditions?

HBA is auto dimming when on coming traffic

DLA is when the LED lights part to put a car in front or oncoming in a dark spot but stay on high beam

Its in this link but dont know if it works for your model as thats the Tiguan list but it worked for me

Yes I know all that but what does the OP expect? VW over the years have used many acronyms for many features of headlight control and many of them were still used when those features changed.

DV52 will know for sure but I reckon the most he can expect would be HBA where the lights dip at oncoming cars and only if the car has the camera in the front of the mirror that detects them. HE should look and see if it has that first

                          Hi Hillbilly,

Thanks for the settings, will try it out, though am pretty sure will need to do some tweaking as the mentioned settings require AFS.

                          1. High Beam Assistant - Menu Control High Beam Assistant - Change to 'Present'
                          2. Highbeam_assistant - Extended_airbeam control - Change to 'AFS, FLA, Highbeam via AFS'

I tried to code the car today. The coding I have is:

Enable Auto High Beam (Light Assist)
Enables the Auto High Beam for Highline Models Only.

Select Control unit 09 (Central Electrics)
                            Security access
                            Access Code 31347
                            Adaptation
                            1. Fernlicht_assistent – Menuesteuerung Fernlichtassistent – Change to ‘Present’
                            2. Fernlicht_assistent – Erweiterte_Frenlichtsteuerung – Change to ‘AFS, FLA, Fernlicht ueber AFS’

                            Enter Coding
                            Byte 2 – Tick Bit 0 and Bit 1

Select Control Unit Front Sensor Driver Assist System (A5)
                            Enter Coding
                            Byte 21 – Tick Bit 5

Reboot Headunit. Option will now appear under ‘Light Settings’ and pushing the high beam stalk forward will reveal the symbol with an ‘A’ within it.

However, I cant seem to code central electronics (09) byte 2 or any byte as the entire coding is displayed as "zeros" . All the other control modules display the coding in numerical or hex. I'm using the latest version of VCDS (bought it two weeks ago - official).

                            Any thoughts?

nibose: Sounds like you have a mk7 that's post MY16. The good Burghers in Germany that design control modules made some fairly drastic changes to the BCM around this time. The mods started with a change to the "parent" name of many of the adaptation channel groups. After that, further changes were made to the hex09 module in that the software switches in the module's long code were transferred to adaptation channels - making the already huge channel count in the module even larger.

That's why the long code on your BCM is a zero-string (i.e. all of the Byte/Bit functions are found in Adaptations -10 in VCDS).

So - to the instructions in your post. Here is the pre MY16 long coding helper screen for Byte 2 in the BCM:

Notice that the wording for hex05 in my picture above is fairly close to the adaptation channel in your instruction:
                              2. Fernlicht_assistent – Erweiterte_Frenlichtsteuerung – Change to ‘AFS, FLA, Fernlicht ueber AFS’.

This suggests that the Byte/Bit instruction further in your instructions has already been accommodated in the adaptation change steps

But as they say at NASA "Houston we have a problem". The superfluous Byte/Bit instruction (i.e.
Byte 2 – Tick Bit 0 and Bit 1) results in a value of hex03. BUT, the adaptation channel part of the instructions yields a an equivalent value of hex05 (see my picture).
