Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Delivery delays (BS?)

    Hi all,

Dealer quoted an "estimated" delivery date of July 29 for my car. I asked for a firm date but he can't give one - claims he can not find out where the car is or when it will be delivered. He gave me a VIN number though.

Do you reckon the dealer is bull****ting and I won't get the car for weeks/months?

    Is this normal?

If they have the VIN, they will know where it is. Factory, transport, docks, shipping etc. This is all tracked. However, clearance through our Australian Customs is what becomes vague; 4-14 days is not uncommon.

Using the VIN i tracked my brand new Golf R all the way from Germany, through the Panama canal, and on to Australia back in 2011. Surely the tracking is as good as this if not better 8 years on. This was both an exciting and painful time, as the progress is slow once on the water and its a long way. I would only look once or twice a week so i could actually see progress.

As mentioned above, once it arrived in Australia, it was approx 2 weeks before it arrived at the dealership.

I've tried the VIN in each of the fields and just get an error. Am I holding it wrong?
