  • Golf GTI/R hatch bike stowage hack

Greetings! I recently hacked up a tarp-based bike stowage thing for my R. I can fit two mountain bikes in with front wheels off. I've even fit a mountain bike + a full set of 19" wheels in the back Pretty impressive how much a Golf can hold to be honest. Anyway, thought y'all might find it handy for similar stowage requirements.

    Behold! CarTarp 1000!

Very cool! I’d probably use plastic caribeners to avoid scratching the headrest posts.

No one “needs” an SUV. [emoji6]

^^^ hmm......... very cool indeed!! Here's my version of a bike carrier for a mk7. It uses a Yakima carrier and a steel welded frame that attaches to the tow-bar ball. Ain't as nifty as the CarTarp (cause it only carries 1 x bike), but it does a good job on a carbon frame mountain bike (cause no part of the frame is held by the carrier).

Indeed. I have wrapped electrical tape around the business end of the caribena for this very reason

I’m looking to get a boot mounted bike rack for my GTI and want something easy to get on and off, and be able to access the boot while bikes are mounted. Needs to hold 3 bikes.I’ve looked at the Thule Raceway and it looks good but says not suitable for cars with rear spoilers even though compatible with the Mk7 Golf. I am reading the reviews here. Do you guys have one and can let me know how good it is, or can recommend an alternative?
