Something to do with lane tracking? Or ? distance from vehicle in front when in adaptive cruise control. I reckonn the German "Reichweite" has something to do with it. Presumably you can choose language and put instrument cluster into English?

I'll bite, what is the little triangle with two dashes mean to the left of it and why is it in German?

Thanks to everyone who has replied. I must apologise for the confusion though.... As far as the German language it's not an actual photo of my dashboard, its a google image. I have my dash in English. Reichweite translates into "range" on an English dashboard. But the symbol remains on the display regardless of what I have displayed in the centre of the dials. The little triangle is the north compass pointer for the navigation. It has the two dashes when it can't figure out which way the car is heading. It does that while in a garage for example.

Is this the new smaller display or the older one? I suspect it is the newer one but it can be hard to tell sometimes from a photograph.

The newer one. I spoke to vw service bloke today and he think it's something to do with the drive mode (sport, normal, eco, individual) but I can't confirm this until the missus gets home from work tonight...

Confirmed - it's the driving mode. Eco shows a road with trees, sport shows a road with chequered flag, normal shows an empty road and individual shows the road with a star.

It looks like the compass heading but maybe it's dashed because the vehicle isn't moving?

My guess: the star symbol generally means "favorite",so I'm guessing it's related to this -perhaps?
