I have now make several esquires to the various state and federal environment authorities. Have been asked if i wish to make a formal complaint and sent a pack asking for various information.

Some of you guys think this is just some simple bull**** but to just top up a A/C system and place back in service without finding a leak is a considerable offence attracting a $313,000 fine. Also VW do not apparently have a very good reputation with our various forms of EPA.

I do have on but am not sure what is an appropriate temperature range for a good working system.

I agree with everything you said re the problem just be aware of my comments re dash cams and filming without warning in a work place. Or just simply present the footage and see what happens but that may blow up if they are aware of the legislation. I can tell you all AHG dealers are very aware of the legislation and the one I know will not tolerate dash cams at all. I am just trying to avoid you going places that might end up in tears so take that for what it is worth. You seem to have a valid complaint so don't complicate it is the simplist way to put it and best of luck with it.

The dealers you mention are not as smart as they think they are. I found out yesterday from a USA forum buddy that several cars Subaru, VW etc that have forward facing Cameras the cameras are on and recording while ever the car is active. E.G. ignition on or any door open.

Like your driving history this information is actually available. I always wondered why my car had a 48gig (or so) HDD installed.

It doesn’t mean that your car has cameras installed from manufacturer. The law is different if you fit yours and post it on YouTube or share the footage.

Dashcams are illegal in quite a few EU countries and more countries are banning or restricting them. Big fines and even jail terms for using and even owning them.

Warning to drivers about using your dash cam abroad

The law can change in Australia if people are misusing them.

For god sake seriously, Yes and the same countries probably still lock up gay people. We are moving towards big brother not away from it. The police every night on the news are requesting dash cam and security video to assist in their inquiries, that is not going to change.

We are about to get facial recognition in the city streets. good luck stopping that.

3c-6c with the temp probe just inside the centre vent when on recirc with the temp Lo and the fan on 1 or 2. Preferably with the car not having been in direct sunlight for a few hours (the dashboard acts like a huge heat store)

Thanks heaps for that, appreciate you getting back to me.

Did a test last night, pretty much as you described. Best I could get was 14 C. But lets remember there is no leak the dealer says so. thus it much be true.

That was exactly my reaction when I heard it from someone and didn’t want to believe it, so I googled it out. And you obviously didn’t click on the link in my post, all major European countries are restricting them and they have very gay friendly laws.

About face recognition cameras.... no one will be stopping them, big brother can, we cannot. In other words it’s ok when police and governments are recording, filming, but not citizens. I think it could be due that too many people are playing detectives.

Do me a favour, use the dashcam footage, I want to see what happens. What happens in the US has nothing to do with what the workplace law is in Oz BTW. Links to OEM cameras that do this rather than internet rumours would also be nice because I doubt it very much.

A bit off topic but I have never heard of anyone in Australia being charged with using a hidden camera except toilets, change rooms etc. I would like to see any legislation of this urban myth. How come "A Current Affair" can do it?

We had to have GPS monitoring fitted to our fleet of trucks and I had to firstly make all drivers aware of the change then put big yellow stickers in each truck to remind them they were being monitored at all times while they were working. No company does that unless they have too. CCTV and Cameras in the Workplace - Rights and Regulations

We were never notified when the cameras were installed. But that was the NSW Government and they are exempt from laws and Workcover regulations.

There has been a solution to my problem.
As a result of a lot of evidence collected by myself (dash cam as well), resulting in the involvement of the EPA and VW Australia. I have agreed for my car to be taken for a few days for a full investigation of my Air conditioning. The leak will be found and repaired, I am to receive a full refund of my $157 plus some other stuff.

The only question I have is why this was all necessary.

This is what should have happened.

Booked car in to check out A/C
Dealer should have said "I am sorry sir but we cant find the leak (they can be hard to find) we have placed some die in the system to assist in locating the leak. Can you please drive the vehicle for a few days then return to us and we will check again".

Sent me on my way and NOT charged me $157

Pretty easy and polite and professional I reckon. But sadly was not the case.

Why do so many companies engage in re-work. Do it right the first time.
