P zero are freakishly good, they were so good I spun the spare wheel in the boot without any dramas too! Loved every second of pushing them to the limit chasing the pro driver instructor.

I’ve yet to learn about protective coatings, but am familiar with detailing. I used to do a deep(ish) detail 3 times a year on my GTI in the US. I used mainly Auto Finesse products and the full clay bar treatment. They had a two-part chemical “wax” protectant. Loved how glassy the paint felt when I was done.

I’d be interested in a more permanent, or at least, a less often needed treatment solution.
I need to get back to my dealer tomorrow as to whether the glasscoat they're offering me is something I actually want. Given my car won't be garaged, I'm leaning towards a yes but I suspect the price is inflated vs. going through a third party.

You will almost certainly get a better job at a cheaper price from a professional car detailer - the profit margins on "dealer add-ons" to new cars are insanely high.

@bkpr and @zardoz - you are both in Melbourne, bypass the rest and go to the best - Dan at Dan's Garage. He won't be the cheapest but he is the best, and isn't *that* much more than the 'glass coat' quote you got zardoz.

One thing on the Pirellis - they do come with a massive lip for rim protection, biggest I've seen on a tyre in a long time.

Not the best looking from completely behind, but pretty much the shadowed section of sidewall (235 on 8.5") is all lip.

                  Haha.. I don't street park so I guess I haven't tested it.

Is this the Pirelli PZero (not PZero Rosso or Nero?). If yes, how do you find it driving in the dead of winter? Before I select a tire I'm kinda nervous about using a "max performance summer tyre" when country Vic can drop below 0º in the morning and roads can get a bit icy. Am I suffering from post-US marketing fluff with summer vs all-season tyres?

                      P Zero.

No idea - I've done 1,400km in a few months since delivery.

There's no doubt a sub zero road can be a bit hairy, but how much driving like that will you do as a % of your overall run, and when you do can you just chill out and take it a bit easier that morning? (pun intended). I think you're still in US mode, and sure if you're living somewhere where you need to dig your car out of snow then it becomes more relevant.

How do you think old Jack is going on his half bald whatevers on his rear drive V8 ute?

                            I present it sometimes.

At least the dual cab numpties (usually) have AWD running.

Hmmm, no mention of a PPF in those specs. I wonder whether it has one or not ?

                                What’s a PPF?
