Haha, well, umbrellas are handy. In the US you got a set of rubber wet weather mats, at least with the GTI. I found them incredibly useful. Do y’all know if these come with the car in Oz? I’m getting the sense that very few extras, save perhaps for some umbrellas, come with new VWs.

The only thing I got with mine was a full tank of petrol - no umbrellas and only cheap looking carpet mats.

Get the accessories options brochure and tell them you are going to tick every item on the list...I got a track day, family photo shoot, R cap, mats ,email sub, beer bottle openers come in so handy!
beach towel , boot liner, umbrellas and the tank was full without even asking. I even told the dealer it would be the easiest sale he would make. At the end of the day you got to play the game hard and fair and have fun doing it while you are buying the flagship of all flagships.

Dealers don't mind this as the average person perceives value in these items (when to the dealer they are near worthless - not that I'm suggesting this was your example). As long as you've already got the dollars sorted then a few freebies can always sweeten.

Does raise a couple of points though..

            1. Are there dealers who actually don't fill the tank these days?

            2. Why did VW drop the most ingenious creation ever from the Mk5/6 - the cup divider / bottle opener??

IIRC my salesperson told me they normally only fill the tank for "performance" VWs.

Haha serious? Wow.. there would be quite a scene if a dealer tried to pull that stunt on me.

Although I do recall a Holden dealer in the 90s handing me my "performance" Holden with barely enough fuel to get to the nearest servo.

Can’t quite remember how much delivery charge was but it was at least a couple thousand.
That tank should be full at least.

Delivery charge on the quotes for the Special Edition in Melbourne have all been ~$3K. Stamp duty ~$3–4K, rego/onroad costs ~$900. So far.

That looks right... I refused the dealer delivery preparation, the car came to the showroom floor with wax and contamination marks, swirls and holograms in the paint. Not to worry as mine got a paint correction and wax by a professional detail company and wheels got nano ceramic coated. The result for spending the $1100 were night and day. The car was transformed into the next level of defect free paint.
To date a year later I have managed to keep the paint free from swirls, scratches or any other defects by regular washes and clay bar then waxing but that might not be the general case for everyone’s ride, some might be daily drivers and tough to maintain in that condition.
I do get into strife from the wife for taking so much pride in my car. Better still she hates driving it so it’s mine, hehehe!

@bkpr Lapiz swirls easily I saw a beautiful example today in great condition (daily driver) but with swirls on the front bumper, I am not surewhat type of paint protection it had on but the rest of the body was great , probably some nano tech as I don’t think it was wax ... I walk past this one every afternoon and look at it - nice colour

Thanks for the heads up. So you refused the dealer “detail”, and instead took it to somewhere else and got everything detailed and protected for $1100? Did they reduce the cost for foregoing the detail? Was this place somewhere in Melbourne?

I’ve yet to learn about protective coatings, but am familiar with detailing. I used to do a deep(ish) detail 3 times a year on my GTI in the US. I used mainly Auto Finesse products and the full clay bar treatment. They had a two-part chemical “wax” protectant. Loved how glassy the paint felt when I was done.

I’d be interested in a more permanent, or at least, a less often needed treatment solution.

Ahh nice to hear you take care of your cars...
to answer your question, I got no reduction on the delivery cost, instead I got offered VW paint protection for an extra $2500 on top of what you and I were quoted for delivery. My paint correction place is in Sydney, they are called Definitive Detailing and you will see them on this forum, they do all the nano tech, wax and self healing technologies.... I chose wax as I like to spend time with my car as I have plenty of spare time to waste. Ceramic coats work great too from what I have seen. Some use clear film but I’m not in that league of car investment.
Ive done Swiss Vax , California Gold and most recently Poor Boys Wax . The car had the most insane beading on my recent trip out in the rain, tip for amateurs is not to have the windows down in any rain and take s corner unless you prepared for a sheet of water in your lap or all over your armrest. PS I find a spray on wax after washes extends the time you need to take before the clay bar decontamination and next wax job is required. Oryx pearl has taught me a lot about how quickly a car gets dirty!!! Enjoy the delema of deciding your paint protection.

Haha, thanks? I’ll get to protection after I figure out wheel/tyre options, which may take some time…

                            Good info though, thank you.

I’ve run the 19in Prets on Conti tyres, stick like glue in the wet and taken the Pirelli on the track in 19 inch in the wet... both beyond my capabilities for daily/ weekend hooning about town. Might stick on the Michelin for fun next change. I’m running stage 1 high torque map on my Wolf 7.5 / hit a couple of good wake up potholes at high speed at 36psi tyre pressure but not suffered any damage that I know of..... 235/35/19 has served me well although I could run less tyre pressure- probably could try 34 psi for more comfort.

Thanks for the info on the 19 Pretorias. I’m investigating options (see wheel thread) it will in all likelihood drive the stock Pretorias for a while to gauge the comfort level. Not 100% sure which tyres come as stock. It I’d guess the Pirellis.
