DIY Servicing for MK7 Golf GTI Manual

Hi all,

My car is out of warranty in the near future and I will be taking on the basic servicing myself and wanted to start this thread to help myself and other in the same situation looking for information, this is what I have gather so far.

If anything is incorrect or you have information for me to add please let me know.

Integrated into fuel delivery unit and cannot be replaced separately

The intervals are not correct for the Australian market.

Air filter is every 45K.

Cabin filter is every 2 years or 30K. Get the B suffix one, as it's carbon activated.

You can use 502-spec 5W40 in these.

I don't have the spark plug numbers at hand, but best to check with VW on them, as they get revised from time to time. Also factor in a coil pack boot or two, as they tend to break upon removal.

Have you been adding the fuel additive every service?

And any chance you know a good quantity to have on hand for the brake/clutch fluid service?

Fuel additive is a dealership thing.

1l of brake fluid would be enough to do a flush.

On my invoice I can see in the description of work done, fuel additive renewed but was not charge under the consumables so I doubt they added anything.

What is the general opinion on the use of it? My dad has an Audi and they charge him $42 for it every service

Dont forget your fuel filter (which i believe is due at 60,000km or 4yrs).

Regarding fuel additive - no doubt you could probably buy an equivalent product made by Nulon or Liqui-Moly for around half that price at Supercheap / Repco.

Looks like its part # G001780M3 or G001770A2 VW OEM Multipurpose Gasoline Fuel Additive G001780M3 | eBay and Genuine Volkswagen Audi - g001780m3KT - Fuel Additive - 200mL (g00 178 0m3 KT) or is it this one G17 Fuel Additive, Genuine Audi/Volkswagen - 034-902-0000 - 034Motorsport

And here is a locally made product that would do much the same Pro-Strength Petrol Fuel System Extreme Clean - Nulon Products Australia and also FUEL SYSTEM CLEANER/CONDITIONER - LIQUI-MOLY Australia

I will also recommend both RunAutoParts and Sparesbox for sourcing air filters/oil filters/fuel filters/wiper blades etc.

For my Golf R the air filter is a straight 45,000Km only thing, and not dependent on age. So if you do a lot of miles you should change it sooner than any arbitrary time limit, similarly if you do low mileage per year then you may go past any time limit.

Dealers are always trying to change stuff on my cars before they are actually needed as I don't do a lot of Kms per year (more parts + more labour = greater profits).

Pretty sure the Mk7 fuel filter is in tank, with no service interval.
