I finally picking up new Golf GTi this weekend. I was wondering if there are any specific coding/programmable settings that get "tweaked" when a new car is being prepared for delivery to the customer. And whether there are any settings that you guys reckon I should be pushing to get activated (or deactivated) before I take delivery of the car? I appreciate there is a multitude of hidden programmable menus but wondered if there are any that the typical VW dealer is actually prepared to involve the customer with and adjust on request?

ABCD: hi and congratulation on your new purchse. In respect of your question, my understanding is that each model has it's own "standard" settings that are determined by the options in the car. VW Australia like their cars to generally all look the same from a CAN-bus perspective - it makes repair and fault diagnosis across the entire fleet of cars easier. So, I expect that any request by you about turning-on other software switches will be futile because it will likely violate VWA's imperative for a standard-operating-system!
As to what to look-for before pick-up, my focus would be to ensure that the dealer has actually undertaken a proper per-delivery inspection. IMO, far too often the dealer's definition of a per-delivery inspection is a car-wash and a smile as you hand-over the Bank-cheque!!
I've just finalized a deal for a new car (time to trade-in my old mk7) and I included a statement in the sales contract that the car must be delivered with a copy of the dealer's ODIS report (containing the car VIN). The ODIS report is the official VW version of VCDS/OBD11 and it gives me a health report of the new car. Yes, it's a new car and it should be very healthy - but I've seen many DTCs in new cars that have happened after factory manufacture and that haven't been rectified by the dealer before delivery. Of course the dealer would accept the obligation to repair these problems under warranty - but I reckon that a new car should be error free and I hate repetitive trips back to the dealer workshop!
DonPlease don't PM to ask questions about coding, or vehicle repairs. The better place to deal with these matters is in the forum proper. That way you get the benefit of the wider expertise of other forum members! Thank you.

I'm sure that there are a few forums members here with VCDS who'd be willing to help out with any coding changes you need.MY13 Golf GTI DSG (SOLD)| Candy White | 18" Detroits | Bi-Xenon Headlights | Street Guardian SG9665C

Thanks all. Will need the dealer to fiddle around with hidden settings/menus sooner than I thought!! Only 100kms on it and already getting what I reckon is that Sound Enhancer dash rattle/vibration when accelerating. Have not yet been over 3000rpm but reckon this will drive me absolutely bonkers when the run in period is over, if it does not do it sooner!!! have read about insulating it’s mounting point as a fix but seems madness for me to be pulling a brand new car apart. Reckon I will head back to the dealer in a few weeks and get them to turn it down (or off)?Last edited by ABCD; 14-08-2018, 05:20 PM.

But everyone has their own opinions, and ETTO. I will admit that I'm at one extreme end of the spectrum - I prefer an inconspicuous car, quiet exhausts etc etc.
I do agree with slin about using some throttle when running a new engine in (to help bed the piston rings properly), but I think there is an even greater range of opinions around on how to "best" run in a new car than there is about the soundaktor2017 MY18 Golf R 7.5 Wolfsburg wagon (boring white) delivered 21 Sep 2017, 2008 Octavia vRS wagon 2.0 TFSI 6M (bright yellow), 2006 T5 Transporter van 2.5 TDI 6M (gone but not forgotten).

DSG farts are fun though. Some reviewers say that VW is tuning them out of the DSGs now.2018 Golf GTI DSG (DAP LUX INFO R-TAILS)
